very VERY impressed

I gave this show a go last night, pretty much cos everywhere I walked, I was bombarded with advertising...and I was VERY impressed at this show.

The lead character, Zane, despite his flaws - you want him to succeed in everything he sets out to accomplish. William McInnes character, you just want to punch in the face...the only downside to this ep was the dodgy 'lovemaking' scene they threw in, didn't need to be there, but a bit of eye candy never goes astray I suppose.

It brought me to tears at the end (even though due to the shooting style, you knew what was going to happen...I don't want to give it away...) and the parents at the end with the line "And we are in hell..." so moving...

great start to a new mini series, I will keep watching for sure.

Does anyone know if this will be repeated, or if it can be downloaded? I managed to record the wrong time and got the news instead.

reply

I think it will be available on DVD pretty much straight after the series finishes on SBS - thats what they did with The Circuit and RAN...I'm not sure about the downloading thing...

reply

great show - very emotional at points

should I explain what political correctness means? I was surprised that every non-Muslim cop in Australia was portrayed as insensitive and/or corrupt.

Disappointed? Why yes, I like balance. Now, I have enlarged on my original post - hopefully you can understand the longer, simplified version.

Every non-muslim cop? Have you even been watching the show?? There is only one count them one Muslim cop on the show. Are you saying that every other police officer in the show has been portrayed as a bad guy??

And yes, as the lead character Malik is mostly portrayed in a positive light. But even then they have shown him doing his share of stupid and narrow minded stuff. In fact Malik and Crowley have both been shown using their powers as police officers to achieve their own ends, predominantly to get revenge on people who have hurt their family members. From what I cam see the show is leading up to the fact that Malik and Crowley are actually very similar in despite of their differences. Not too original I grant you, but hardly racist. (And hey, its a cop show, the genre isn't known for its originality!).

As for the whole excessive multi-cultural PC-ness: the show is based on an actual squad. A squad that developed in the 90s as an initiative to forge better police relations with with Sydney's various ethnic communities. Hence the diversity of ethnic groups represented on the how. The character of Malik is based on an Egyptian cop who was on that squad.

I bought a car, turned out to be an alien robot.
Who knew?

As a retired cop I can tell you that there are quite a few Muslims in the NSW Police Force. At the last Station I worked at we even had a Druze!

I'm loving this show, such a shame its only 6 eps long. I'll definitely be wanting to grab it on DVD.
