Second series in UK

Anyone know if/or when the BBC are going to show series 2?

I was hooked by the first series, and am missing it already.

Agree with you 100%.

I dont understand why the BBC brought out their own version when this one is so good ?
Not an endourcement to smoke but its rather comforting to see a detective smoking again in this (especially in cautious, concerned Sweden) and perhaps a reminder of how many freedoms we are continuing to loose in the UK.
I was shocked and saddened by the death of Johanna especially as (from a public point of view) she had so much going for her.

I find the BBC version strange, it's not that Branagh isn't good but it seems a bit mad to go all the way over to Sweden and remake the episodes in English.

Poor Johanna, she was great as Linda (the English version is not so good) - having not seen series 2 I wonder if it will be as good without her and Ola. That final episode of series 1 (The Secret) was brilliantly acted but painful to watch considering her own suicide.

I dont get the BBC version at all and I saw that before the Swedish version- total loony tunes, possibly Branagh was a bit short of work so the luvvy circuit at the BBC quickly bought the rights to give him a vehicle?

BBC4 will broadcast season 2 this spring

reply

Season 2 started on Saturday night on BBC4 with weekly repeats on Thursday nights

Shame it's now ended; it made my Saturday nights! The BBC version just doesn't work for me. Is it true that Krister Henriksson is not making any more?

Sadly yes.

It will be missed.

Cheers for the info. You're right; it is a real shame. I've loved series one and two.
I guess that's my Wallander watching days over with then.

It would be great if Yellow Bird could "do" a Taggart and create a show which doesn't actually require the eponymous hero!

reply

Good idea! Not sure it would work for me though as I gave up on Taggart not long after Marc Mcmanus died! I thought the rapport with Wallander, Katerina, Isobel, Pontus etc. really worked this series. I could imagine an Isobel/Puntus spin off; however, I'd miss the others too much to watch!

reply

That is a shame, I've really enjoyed watching it on BBC4, I just hope the fact that people watched it will inspire the BBC to show other continental series.. I recall when they first showed a couple of episodes of Wallander they also showed a couple of episodes of an Italian police show... perhaps they could show more of that.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

I didn't see the Italian cop series, was it any good? I'm all for more TV imports of a good standard - other than American we don't get to see them. Perhaps those in charge of program acquisition think we can't handle subtitles, hopefully Wallander has proved many of us can.

On the subject of a 'Taggart' style spin off, I think it could work perhaps with Martinsson taking over as he was planning to.

reply

It was pretty good although quite different from Wallander, unfortunately I can't remember what it was called.

It was called Zen and starred Rufus Sewell. Well worth watching.
