Has series 3 aired in Sweden? (And question about series finale)

I had dinner with a friend last night who swore that she saw the final episode of "Wallander" in which he realizes he has Alzheimer's and quits the police force. She also said that comes at the end of the season where a woman from the police department moves in next to Kurt and they develop a relationship.

Well, I'm totally confused. According to everything I can find on the website of MHz Networks, the channel that airs "Wallander" in the U.S., they've only ever aired series 1, ending with "The Secret"/"Hemligheten":

http://www.mhznetworks.org/series/wallander

I also checked my friend's library, where she gets a lot of international mystery DVDs, and they also only have series 1.

Now, I've seen parts of series 2 thanks to a friend who recorded some eps from a French-Canadian channel. And that was the series where the new lady moved in next door. But again, no sign of series 3 yet.

According to IMDb, series 3 is airing in Sweden at the rate of one episode per month, ending in October:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907702/episodes?season=3

But is that even correct? I just checked TV4's website; there's no mention of series 3 on their "Wallander" page:

http://www.tv4.se/wallander/avsnitt/avsnitt-2-161830

And when I checked their schedule for August 21st (supposedly the next airdate), there was no sign of the show. (I can't view far enough back in the schedule to see whether an episode aired on July 24th.)

Evidently the first episode of series 3 was released theatrically; it has the same name as Henning Mankell's final "Wallander" book ("The Troubled Man"/"Den orolige mannen"), but it can't have entirely the same plot or there wouldn't be any more episodes!

So does anyone know what the heck is happening with the Swedish airings? And has there been a scene yet with Wallander losing his memory? If so, what season was it in?

Thanks!!

Series three has not been aired in Sweden. The episodes are released on DVD as movies and episode two (Saknaden) was released in August. I've seen both Saknaden and Den orolige mannen and I can't recall him ever quitting. In Saknaden he sees a doctor and we realise something is wrong and that he gets bad news, but he's still working. In Den orolige mannen he forgets his gun at a restaurant and in Saknaden he is confused at times.

Den orolige mannen is based on Mankell's last book but I guess they don't want the series to end with that so they're making more episodes to "tie everything together" or something.

Series three will air on TV4 later on, when it's "getting old".

Edit: OMG! I just realized that Saknaden is episode 4 and that I've missed ep 2-3. :O (They were released during the summer.)

Annica, thank you! That's very helpful information.

I guess the dates listed for the episodes here on IMDb are the release dates for the DVDs, not the airdates on TV4. Thanks for clearing that up.

Thank you also for verifying that they added more stories after "Den orolige mannen."

I think my friend must have read the book of "Den orolige mannen" and thought she saw the ending of it on television, with Kurt retiring. The Swedish Wikipedia site you cited makes it clear that Kurt decides to retire at the end of "Sorgfågeln." So I guess that will be the last set of "Wallander" movies with Krister Henriksson. :-(

p.s. You have no need to apologize for your English! It's perfect!!
