Do the series/episodes need to be watched in order?

I really want to watch the Swedish version of Wallander, but am wondering whether it is necessary to watch Series 1 & 2 in order, will I miss out on any plotlines character development etc if I don't?. I ask as random episodes are being shown on BBC4 at the moment. Thanks.

reply

No you can watch them out of context, no problem.
but I'll recommend watching them in order to catch some minor character developments.

It's much better to watch them in order,IMO. The stories are, after all, character-driven and relationships will seem odd if you don't see them developing.

The English ones don't matter so much, but the Swedish episodes do show developing relationships.

They are all so good...you can enjoy them out of order. What I have done is just bought them all."even the Rolf ones". Any Wallender is worth seeing. ...read the books too.

I'm new to Wallander - did see the KB version back in 2008 here in the UK. As regards the original was it Rolf or Krister who first took the role?

Without wanting to spoil anything, the final episode of Series 1 has to be watched after the rest.

And let's not forget the first episode has te be watch first.
But for me, it's really best to watch all 3 seasons in order, as there are really certain things you otherwise would not understand..

I watched the Brit series first.
Then watched Season 2 of the Swedish.
Then most of Season 3 of the Swedish.
Now I'm watching Season 1 of the Swedish.
Then I will watch the final episode of Season 3 of the Swedish.

What a tremendous series. I prefer the Swedish (despite the fact that I do not speak Swedish) to the British. Actually, I don't speak British either.

I have read many good reviews of Season 1 of the Swedish, but my favorite is Season 2 of the Swedish. It all seems to come together then.

Series 3 of the Swedish is very well acted. And is a great season as well. But I am truly dismayed. I wish there were a better ending for such a great character. Such, however, is LIFE. And I think this series constantly pounds that into your head. Extremely well done.
