The 27 Club
I was privileged to attend the opening premier night for The 27 Club at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, April 26th. The movie exceeded my expectations and had so many wonderful qualities. Joe Anderson did a fabulous job as a famous musician trying to deal with the death of his best friend & band mate. His pain was evident on screen and his emotions really captured the audience. I enjoyed the scenes Anderson shared with David Emrich, a grocery store clerk, who was hired to drive “Elliot” across country to attend his friend’s funeral. Emrich’s unique dialogue provided some comic relief to an otherwise heart-wrenching emotional journey for Anderson.
Aside from the wonderful story, the cinematography was visual stimulating. The beautiful landscape and desert horizons that appear in the film were beautiful and moving. The scenes filmed in the southwest were particularly haunting as Anderson continued his journey to New York.
The music in the film was fantastic and the featured song found on The 27 Club web site (www.the27clubmovie.com) is currently on my i-pod. I look forward the release of the other songs from the film, in particular, the song featured from the Down by the Wayside choir.
This film is a wonderful tribute to Erica Dunton, who both wrote and directed the film. She has woven an intricate story that illustrates the struggles of a young musician with his addictions, the demons of his past, & his hope for a new beginning. The film was a wonderful addition to the Tribeca Film Festival and I hope to see it in theaters soon!
