Wonderful film, bad ending.
First off: Joe Anderson is absolutely exceptional in this role. It just cements him as one of the most under-appreciated but talented actors around. The film is beautifully shot too, I heard they used 35mm with a modified lens. Looked vintage (or that could just be the nasty recording I managed to scavenge from the dregs of the internet). But: Joe Anderson. Perfect human ok.
The only issue I had was with the Christian resolution in the end-- was a bit of a cop out, I felt. The film was gorgeous, with good character development, and then bam, deus ex machina: Christian conversion. It kind of undermined Eliot's whole psychological/physical journey. I've got nothing against Christianity specifically, but using religion, any religion, as a resolution for a character's predicament is weak storytelling.
