Are or were actual sideshow performers??

I know some truly are, but, it's a long-shot pass to say that ALL of them are true real-born "freaks" (I hate that term).

Was the half-and-half "he/she" a performer, or just an actor/actress? I've always been a fan of Josephine/Joseph from FREAKS, so, naturally, Robby/Robbie intrigued me.
Also, the Elephant Man?
He was prosthetic, right?

Just making sure, I'm curious.

Yes, the elephant man was prosthetic so was that wolf face man.

The knife throwng man with no arms, the man with half a body were both real.

I watched the extras at the end of the movie.

The Wolf Boy, played by Larry Gomez" is real. He was born with hypertrichosis.
Veekay (The Wolf Man) is an actual sideshow performer who grew up in the freakshows as a "Wild Boy."
