animation

what type of animation is that, it's really cool

reply

Brett says himself- it's motion capture (not rotoscope!)

It looks awesome whatever it is.

I'm one of the animators on the film. We used a combination of Motion Capture and traditional 2D animation. The majority of animation featured in the trailer, as well as the film is motion capture. It is a similar technique that was used in films like Lord of the Rings for Gollum and the Polar Express. We did do a lot of tweaking of the motion capture to make things a bit more dynamic.

There were actually two different companies that did the animation. We (Curious Pictures) did all of the courtroom animation. There was also animation done for the "stand up comedy" scenes which was done by another company (whose name escapes me).

edgeworx did that, and the vietnam scene, the bandstand environment, etc

I heard the original animation was started in England. And that a lot was done by two studios in New York. The 3D by Curious Pictures and the 2D by Asterisk.

The animation was started at the animation company called Bermuda Shorts, based in London, now liquidated. I know this because I did a lot of the 2D character design for the original animation at Bermuda Shorts.
