Creatures not subversive enough

I like the film but it did need some improvements.

I think the creatures could have been more inventive / subversive together with any specifically created music for the transformations and subsequent actions.

The characters needed more development - I think we should have seen more of their everyday interactions so we could have had a chance to know them better and hence felt more empathy when they met their horrible ends.

They just came across as a group of banal bearded Norwegians who we knew nothing about.

The Kate Lloyd character just seemed to spend most of the film looking wide eyed in amazement - her facial expression reminding me of the 'Big Eyes' paintings.

Finally Ulrich Thomsen's portrayal of Dr. Sander Halvorson came across as a tired Sam Neill.

Totally agree with you. The creatures, except the Edvard-Adam Split Face all looked like Austrian biker chicks with long dreadlocks. They should have been more diverse just like the ones in the 1982 Carpenter film!

Go, Miami Redhawks!!!

I wanted to see the original creature in full before it started absorbing people. We only get glimpses of it, though. And, after it is all charred up.

One question: How does this distorted, clawed creature pilot a giant, sleek spacecraft?

New The Thing (2011) criticism just dropped;
- The lead actress has big eyes.
