What happened to Kate at the end?

People saying she did this, she did that, she froze to death etc.

BUT why don't we see any of this?

And why would she choose to freeze to death when she could return to base?

And why choose death over life?

Also, considering her desire to wipe the Thing out, wouldn't she have been motivated to return to base to either make sure it was dead, or to warn the outside world about it?

I think Kate ended up having the exact same fate that MacReady and Childs did at the end of the 1982 movie which was that she froze to death.

reply

Thanks but why couldn't she return to the base?

reply

It was on fire burning to the ground when she left.

The base, even burned down, was still a place to return to for rescue or rendezvous with other survivors. Her next logical move would still be to go there.

It seems the filmmakers had a problem - if she returns and lives, it screws up the segway into The Thing 1982.

She might have tried to drive to the Russian Station that the Carter-Thing was talking about (he may have been lying though) before Kate lit him up. Then again, she also might have tried to drive to "OUTPOST 31" which she knew about in a Deleted Scene from the movie when everyone was in the radio room watching Edvard & Colin trying to call for help and reaching nobody.

The is a scene in the 1982 movie where a solitary figure is spotted outside the base. What if this was Kate?

reply

What scene is this?

reply

He must be referring to whichever “Thing” killed Fuchs outside. Definitely wasn’t her, haha.

reply

The Shadow that startles Fuchs (and us)?

lol XD
