In "Stone Cold", the novel immediately preceding "Sea Change", the psycho couple kill DeAngelo during a bungled arrest attempt. While it's arguably more interesting for Jesse to dislike DeAngelo and want to "wear him down" to get rid of him, does anybody have any idea why the movies have gone the route they have?
