The Finale may be the worst I've personally ever seen.

To simply say the finale was melodramatic would be putting it very nicely. Am I the only one who feels that the characters were left without a feeling of some closure? I know it doesn't need to be in black in white but I feel like i just watched an episode out of order, and that there is another episode next week and probably the week after that. It doesn't feel like Hank is any different and that all the characters and story arches were left incredibly open. This whole season seemed lazy and the writing very lackadaisical.

The finale did not seem to be worth the seven year wait. I personally think it was one of the worst excuses for a series finale. This is coming from an individual who vested a lot of time and patience; as well as defending the show to countless others who were on the verge of giving up. Who else really disliked the finale? Anyone disagree and believe otherwise? Please, bring on the criticism. Me or the show. Thank you.

I wouldn't say it was the worst I've seen but it was pretty bad.
Then again, the last seasons have been awful so I was not expecting a lot. I was just staying loyal to the show because I loved it so much in the beginning.

The finale feels like an ending to season 7, not an ending to the show. There have been great seasons finales earlier on, in fact season 1-4 all had great final episodes, but they've just lost their grip. It should have ended way sooner.

It's a real pity. I do agree with those saying Showtime has a problem, but I did hope the writers could bring out some of the soul the show had in the beginning.
The early seasons had amazing scenes, from Hank's letter to Becca, his situation with his father, Lew Ashby, the entire Mia storyline and so on.
I'm used to shows not keeping up the quality 100% but it's fairly tragic that they couldn't create a single memorable moment in the last two seasons. There is not a single episode from season 6 or 7 I'd like to watch again. It's just "meh" and it's boring. And the show used to be amazing!

The finale was dull but it wasn't unexpected.

I agree. I love Californication but the finale is just, missing so many things.

Worst of all, we didn't even get to see Hank walk Becca down the aisle.

I think this show was on a downward spiral that started with the fifth season. I know I'm not the only one to say this, but I do agree with what some of the people have said on here about it ending at the fourth season. It was the perfect ending for the show. The final season had so many problems that it's hard to know where to start. I guess the first thing I would say is that I didn't mind the whole lost son angle because it would make sense in Hank's case with the amount of women he's slept with, but Levon looked nothing like him or Heather Graham. Plus, I just thought he was annoying and I just wish he was written differently. One of the other problems I had with this season was I hardly laughed as compared to the earlier seasons. I had the same criticism when it came to the fifth and sixth seasons too.

When it came to the finale, there was so much they could have done with it, but it just seemed like it was thrown together. They were trying to cram in too many things when it really should have been about the main characters who have been on the show since the first season. The other thing I hated was the fact that they didn't even show Becca's wedding. You would have figured with her being a major character that they would have shown some of it.

All in all, this show had a lot of potential, but they dragged it out way too long. As much as I like seasons two, three and four; I felt that the first season was the best written of the show. That was the one season that had heart and where they really seemed to be putting in the most effort.

Given the shows authenticity has literally gone to *beep* the last few years, the finale was better than I was expecting, however I agree with you on this:

The finale did not seem to be worth the seven year wait.

It was kind of a bummer finale that resolved nothing.

Then you didn't watch Dexter, OP.

Not getting the hate for the wrap-up. Worked for me. What were you guys expecting?

The last season of californication was bombarded with cliche's,kinda sad to end a great series like this.

They should have called it quiets with the sixth season!

They should have called it quiets with the sixth season!

What if they all would have whispered during the seventh? `How `bout that, then?
Care to enumerate the barrage of cliche's for us?

lol, so true. Dexter was the worst ending of all time. This one comes in second.

reply

Agreed. I recently finished watching all 7 seasons on Amazon and I honestly liked this ending.

I really had no idea that the show had been prematurely cancelled.

I get cynicism, but I think people are being way too angsty over the fact that it was a generally happy ending for the main cast. Charlie ans Marcy are together. It looks like Hank is finally back with Karen. Julia ends up with the director and even Levon ended up with someone.

It actually feels like a finale. For Pete's sake, the episode is about Becca getting married on top of everything else.

Plus the whole "they're about to get back together ... but Hank screws it up" thing was getting rather boring. I would have been fine with Season 6 being the end Hank going off with Faith.

reply

And here I thought LOST had the worst ending ever.

reply

Agreed. It was just a terrible storyline (Julia and Levon), a half-heartedly executed storyline (writer on a TV show) and a ridiculouls pat ending with Karen.

Well, Tom K always said it was all about Hank and Karen.

You beat me to it.

The Dexter finale was 1000 times worse then Cali.

Oh yes.

I know it's a completely different network, but True Bloods finale sucked big time and I was also disappointed in Boardwalk Empires final season and the series finale. HBO is typically good at wrapping up a story - Showtime seems to have more challenges. Although, the longer they allow a season to run, the more doomed the finale. Stick with 5 years and then cut it.

I didn't dislike TB's finale as much as Dexter. I also liked Cali's finale more than Dexter.

reply

I would say they were about equal… Both absolutely terrible….

TB just took the most LAME way out…..

The finale of season 4 seems like the best ending to me. The show went down hill ever since season 5. I mean...it doesn't even brings closure to anything. They opened up way too many subplots and have no time to close them all, resulting in a very horrible finale. I mean, even the Charlie-Marcy's closure is so weak, it makes no sense that they can keep the money while not going through the deal. The only (acceptable) closure in the final episode is the Levon's subplot, aside from that, everything is just...rushed.

In my mind, I will just think the show ended at season 4.

The finale did not seem to be worth the seven year wait.

Lol, pretty much everyone with good tastes stopped watching during season 2. Took you some time to figure this one out !

reply

Stopped watching In season 2??? There were still some great eps going on in seasons 3 and 4. The viewer ship went up so I guess it was still pretty tasty to many. The last few seasons were getting repetitive and yet I still found eps to enjoy. The finale was not the worst I've ever seen. It could have been better but wasn't awful.

reply

I would have preferred to have a scene for Becca's wedding (a nice bookend to Karen getting married, then bailing with Hank and Becca) and I think some subplots could have been resolved a bit cleaner (such as beginning some resolutions in the previous episode), but overall I thought the finale was alright (I especially liked the final shot of Hank's abandoned Porsche; I thought it was a fitting final visual).

reply

it was bad. real bad. I was watching it online and honestly didn't even realize it was the finale. Like...it just ended randomly.

very disappointing.

reply

Just terrible. The whole season...from Levon to Rath to Julia to Becca barely being in it, to Marcie and Charlie. The whole thing sucked.

reply

to Becca barely being in it

To me, that was the saving "Grace" of S7.
