I'll watch this a little later on, but according to when I first heard about this movie? The real substance of the movie is NOT about horror or the hair. It is about the other issues that circle Chiaki's character, especially the abusive older sister and her abused daughter. Everything else is some sort of parady on horror flicks including the fact that the salon itself is named after an abuser/killer. I intend to buy this and watch it. I personally believe that Sion should have simply covered the serious elements that he intended, DIRECTLY, and not try to hide behind the spoof and camp of mocking other J-horror movies. From everything I've read about the movie, that too is supposed to be his way of taking a knock at Japan and the lack of serious attention to its pressing social issues, while lauding over the superficial.

regardless, I thought it to be pretty good, spoofy or not...I think it actually can be versatile enough to hold its own horror wise. (come on...hair out of the eyeballs was pretty creepy, at least to me) but yeah, there was definately some intentional camp to it (the little "guy" at the end after being "knocked down" so to say) but I think the best part is that it had a happy ending xD I was glad about that, to be honest.

Chiaki reminds me sooooo much of Sawai Miyu (from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) in this xD I'm not really sure why, but she did!

Zer0shift you think that's too high?

9/10 would be about right.
This is an excellent film, although it's not perfect.
Sono's second best film though IMO

It's settled down now, but still rather high. I'm a big Sono fan but was really disappointed by this one. It appears that he should stay away from campy horror since he doesn't have the flair for it; existential nightmares seem to be more his thing.

Even a blunt comparison of this movie with all the junk out there in the name of horror movies will yield that it deserves about a 7, at least.
I just didn't like the way it ended, I feel something was lacking & could have ben a little better.

Haha, that's interesting. Now it's down to 6.5. I'm surprised it was 8.4 once.

This gives me hope that eventually imdbers will bring that godawful movie "The Interview" down from its ridiculously high rating to a rating it deserves, like... 4 or less.
