Great doc....but

The documentary is great and interesting. It's funny to see how some of the comedians deal with Hecklers. But going into online critics and online bloggers criticizing them was kinda sad. It's easy for a comic or actor or director to talk about how "Everyone online who criticize someone is a frustrated (whatever)." Or until you do it, you can't talk about it. I think that's a bunch of bull. Jamie Kennedy isn't a musician, but I bet you he's said that a band sucked or an album sucks. Rob Zombie isn't a stand-up comic, but he's probably seen a comedian and said "He sucks or isn't funny." I don't understand why these celebrities care what we think. I mean I'm sure they love when we talk about how great they are, but as soon as we say they suck or something they do sucks and then it's like "How dare you?" I mean I'm sure there are people out there who say that The Beatles suck or are overrated. If something is good, it's critic-proof. If something is good, it doesn't matter what people think. I didn't like Titanic, but it's the number one movie of all time. James Cameron doesn't care if anyone doesn't like Titanic cause he's made a bundle off it. I've seen reviews on here were people trashed The Dark Knight. Think Christopher Nolan gives a crap what someone on here or aintitcool.com has to say about the movie. Has Jamie Kennedy or any of those people gone to a restaurant and complained about the food. Do they want to go in the back and make it themselves? They're not chefs, so how can they talk about if food is good or not. What they are forgetting is that people pay to see them live or in a movie. They are spending hard earned money and they want their money's worth. Do if you're excited to see a movie and it's a turkey or you see a band and they are off that night. Or if a stand-up comic doesn't bring it, you feel cheated. I mean people in Heckler were saying how people online hide behind their screen name. Well, I'm sorry, but I can't call up Jamie Kennedy to tell him why I didn't like Malibu's Most Wanted or Son of the Mask. I can't call up Rob Zombie to tell him why I didn't like one of his CDs or Halloween and House of 1000 Corpses. If anyone famous is reading this and has a problem with what I have to say, send me a private message and I'll give you my e-mail address. Or just respond to this post. No one is going to love everything you do and hopefully not everyone will hate everything you do. I mean Joel Schumacher's Batman movies weren't great. He might say "They were just comic book movies. What did you expect?" Well, The Dark Knight was a comic book movie, Iron Man was a comic book movie. The difference is that The Dark Knight and Iron Man were good movies. Batman and Robin and Batman Forever didn't try to make the movies good. They just wanted them to be a spectacle. I understand how hard it is to make a movie. It's tough and a lot of things need to go right in order to make a good film. But I also think that a lot of movies are made and the people involved know it's a dud, but what can they do? I mean does Jamie Kennedy seriously think that Son of the Mask is a great movie? I understand that Jamie needs to plug the movie when it comes out. But the movie was not good. I do understand that some people are really harsh and saying someone needs to be killed or get cancer, that's a little too much. I mean I've written harsh comments on here before. I've never said anything horrible like that. I do think that there are actors (Paris Hilton) or directors (The guys who did Date Movie/Disaster Movie) who should never work again. I can understand that a lot of these people don't want to read bad reviews about themselves or their work, but you've got to want to de better. I mean I'm not sure if Jamie Kennedy has any actual acting training, but maybe he'll make a good movie one day. I think he was good in the first Scream movie. I wasn't a huge fan of Scream, but there were two good things about the movie. The opening scene is one of the best opening scenes in a movie and the other good thing is Jamie. But his other movies weren't that great. I don't read critics reviews. To me, most critics only like art house films and dramatic Oscar contenders. So I don't read them. But I do check out imdb to see what people like myself have to say. For the most part, I know if I'm going to like a movie or not and I just watch it. I've never not seen a movie based on what someone says. But it's cool to read other people's feelings about a movie. Or to express my feelings and see if someone else feels that way. I've had people on here disagree with me or trash me for disagreeing with them. Everyone has their own opinions and taste. But comics, who are up there, every day, talking about things that they hate and piss them off, people they don't like, why is it for them to do that and people not being paid to do it can't? It's easy for Jamie Kennedy to throw a guy up on stage and say "You don't think I'm funny, you be funny." And sit in the audience as the guy bombs. That's not fair to that dude cause Jamie's been doing comedy for what? 10, 15 years? Maybe more. Should you heckle a comic, no. I mean I understand you want to be funny and try to look cool or whatever, but you should respect the guy's act. But to say that a movie with you in it sucks and you were bad in it, that's every person's right. If I paid to see the movie and sat through the whole thing, I should be able to voice my opinion.

This documentary isnt talking about imdb discussions when it refers to "critics on the internet" no movie is ever going to suffer because of imdb board topics.

its talking about websites devoted purely to rating film, and critic' personal website/blogs that get millions of hits a day on each film that is reviewed. Such websites make or break a movies mainstream success these days. And when you are a star or talent that gets in badly recieved movies, your career will suffer and that kind of thing didnt exist years ago.

Imagine if waterworld was made today. God i would think besides being a bomb as it was in 1995, costner would have been the subject of entire websites devoted to "the career that must end" type nonsense. His career barely went onto anything "blockbuster" since, which is sad and the result of just standard movie backlash. Even though, i love that movie, always have and so do millions around the world, such that reviewers can ruin a film in any decade is so unfair.

reviews are NOT something that should go with the territory of film or any artistic medium, if you cant handle paying 11$ to go and see for yourself (after seeing a promotional trailer) if you like a movie, you have been tainted by your society to be nothing but a critic's sheep.

Love it. Love everything that you wrote. Except the "I hope they get cancer" kind of thing.. because that's a joke, generally, and who cares? It's funny.. it's something to make someone read your review and not someone else's. But, yeah, I agree about that attitude that you can't review a movie if you've never made one. It's a ridiculous argument. I used to have a boyfriend who would tell me that I could never understand music because I don't play an instrument. But.. you know.. that was pretty wise.
Oh, yes, the "it's a comic book" plea. I loved that too. He doesn't take comic books seriously, so he didn't take his movie seriously. As you said, he made it only as a spectacle and didn't expect it to be good. Oh god.. watch Batman and Robin right now.. anyone.. it is horrendous.

No, no.. bottom poster. Someone in the movie mentioned imdb specifically. They weren't talking about professional reviews only. And they certainly weren't referring to how reviews cause their films to make less money. That's a lame complaint.
