JAMIE, DON'T ASK IF U ONLY WANT LIES + LOVE

Watch "Heckler" and notice how many times Jamie literally asks what some stranger thinks of his work, practically pleads for some fawning, then puts on the pouting 5 year old face when they give him an answer short of "I love you." Sad. Lemme guess - it was acting for Jamie's latest "brilliant concept."

Amazing, also, that the audiences not laughing at JK's shows are not Jamie's fault - apparently the audiences were shown were working together in a conspiracy of meanness, loving every golden joke, but refusing to laugh and then turning nasty because that' how they planned it.

By the way, with all the talk of sensitivity for the feelings of others from Jamie, the desperate worry over hurt feelings, I missed the segment dedicated to how little people, and people from a variety of races and religions, and women, and athletes, and secretaries, and hockey players, and mob guys, and teachers, and flight attendants, and rap musicians, and politicians, and housewives, and bed-wetters, and teenagers and...well, even critics "feel" about being the butt of so many taunting, abusive jokes from comedians - jokes they are never in a position to answer when the insults come across the screen. (sob) It must be AWFUL for them

Yeah, hecklers are a pain in the ass, and they eff up some good shows, and they're usually drunk. Yes, Jamie, I HAVE been heckled. (Never has crap thrown at me, though.) Loved the chance to hear some funny stuff from comedians I love, and some really intelligent comments from some comics I love. Hell, there were some great insights from comics (and producers and writers) I don't much like - I was pleasantly surprised by a couple of them. But it was otherwise a pathetic pity party. With a lot of work, this film could be ONLY self-indulgent.

Really, one has to assume Jamie's performance throughout so much of this really was part of what he thinks is an inside joke or a secret behind the documentary, because it would take a real idiot to make it clear to all those hecklers, bloggers and incompetent critics how deeply their jabs and slashes are felt. Of course, given the vocabulary JK demonstrated on a few occasions he attempted to read literate reviews aloud... well... It's hard to tell, isn't it?

kennedy was not as funny as carey was in the dreadful, son of the mask. it was pointed out the heckler movie.
what a whiney baby kennedy is, though.

The whole point is critics are nerds and wanna be's. It's ok to dislike what an entertainer does but why be nasty about it.

reply

I'll believe it when Jamie spends some time showing us how his fans are predominantly made up of well-educated, erudite ladies and gentlemen.

Yeah, there are bloggers and largely anonymous critics who are nasty and stupid. So what? He's got fans who are infantile and foolish. It comes out in the wash.

MY point was that Jamie is seen in his own film inviting people to tell him they LOVE his work, and he acts like a 4 year old when they don't respond to the confrontation by giving him what he clearly wants. His parents know him best, and they said it. He can't take criticism, and it makes no difference to him whether it's legitimate, constructive and detailed, or broad, nasty and cutting.

Take some of the "legitimate" and expert criticism leveled against his trash films and see whether Jamie responded by improving in his next work. He didn't.

reply

Not giving him what he wants? He asked for a review of his show and they insulted him personally and directly. "What did you think of the show?" "I think that you suck." That's not answering the question. The comments were directed at the person and not the material they were being asked about.

reply

well maybe he just really really sucked.
up there, on the stage, telling jokes for that paying audience, he failed to do his job.
if i take my car to a mechanic to get it fixed, and i get it back still broken, that mechanic totally sucks at fixing cars.
jamie kennedy is a comedian who sucks at being funny.
if he was a good comedian, i imagine those kids would tell him that.

reply

but what about the ladies in the nail salon? he asked them if they thought he was cute and the lady said she thought the baby was cute and he made his little pouty face...then it said "everybody is a critic" when he ASKED HER. and also he seemed to be offended just watching celebrity deathmatch. which is completely idiotic! celebrity deathmatch is nothing to be taken seriously or personally...

reply

let's get real for a minute, that celebrity deathmatch was so old. he probably was watching his dvd of the last time he was mentioned on MTV.

reply

i was just saying...but its funny you said "lets get real" but then you went assuming that he was watching a dvd...of the last time he was mentioned on mtv?? come on...i don't mean to be mean at all im just saying. sorry if i sound harsh.
oh and celebrity deathmatch was repremiered on mtv2 in 2006-2007 which is when this movie came out (2007)
but whether or not it was a dvd or on air, being on celebrity deathmatch is nothing to be ashamed about. its like weird al parodying an artist's song. all in good fun.

reply

do you think jamie kennedy just happened to be laying in bed watching tv, while being filmed, and he just happened to show up on celebrity death match at that particular moment?
i'm not saying being a celebrity parodied on celebrity death match is something to be ashamed of. although, people who watch it should probably be ashamed. its comedy is about on the level of jamie kennedy's.
also worthy of note: jamie kennedy will be 39 next month. who is his audience? children? was the slunky "joke" for kids?

reviewers are writers.
i would much rather read a well-written review that tears apart a bad movie than watch the actual movie.

a perfect example is this review of "jaws the revenge" by roger ebert:

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19870720/REVIEWS/707200301/1023

reading that review is 10x more enjoyable than jaws the revenge, and i don't think ebert wrote it because he's jealous of the director.

I watched this, and thought it was very informative. Definitely a must see for
anyone in here. IMDb is even mentioned in the show by one of the guys.

Roger Ebert is perhaps the only critic whose opinion I value, because he does go through careful analysis to provide you with a clear direction of whatever he reviews. It's kind of funny how some of the people in this film criticized the critics without understanding they were doing the same.

It's impossible to please everyone, and I think the film had several important points to make that no matter how much every Tom, Dick , or Harry hates something, it's pointless to limit the creative process of expression.

However, I have to wonder how celebrities can expect us to feel sorry for them being heckled when they pull up at red carpets in limos, dressed in top designer outfits, while people around the entire world such as China, Darfur, even here in the US live impoverished, and across the planet.

We see celebrities like Oprah donate lots of money, but then you know these same people love living the high life, showing it off, and somehow through all of that we're supposed to sit still, and act like it's all just fine, and dandy.

Well, truth be told (IMHO) it's not fine that our culture has been raised to treat entertainment as more important than civilized living for everyone else.

If you live the life of fame, and extravagance don't expect it to come without a price.
Could be far worse such as no food, or most of the daily essentials red carpet folks feast upon every year.
There is a certain level of hypocritical elitists behavior that has become well established within Hollywood entertainment, and don't think the public is unaware, no matter how many causes celebrities try to host themselves as spokespersons for.

In my opinion it's rather insulting to all of us that work just as hard to survive, but never get the perks of high society living just for looking good and being able to be fake.

The point Kennedy made in this film, for me, is that people love to destroy anyone who is creative. I like some of Jamie's work, some I don't love, but at least the guy is out there doing it, living his dream, making some of us entertained. The people that rip him to shreds are small and have no talent, or they would be doing it too. They are so small. Tiny. And they know it. That's why they rip away.
