It's still, just TV...

So I watched a bit of Breaking Bad, a few episodes, after friends and media hyping it being cinematic, better than movies and not just another TV show... etc...

Sorry... It felt very small screen, very TV show... Yeah, it's probably better than most TV shows, but not at the level of the first couple of seasons of Mad Men, Game of Thrones or even The Wire... Or even a solid mini-series like Chernobyl, The Night of, or Devs... A far cry from actual movies...

It's not bad. I don't think I'll watch any more of it. Not at the level people talk about it as having...

reply

So......you say you "watched a bit of Breaking Bad, a few episodes"
Exactly how many? Which season ? Did you start at the beginning? If you've only watched the first couple of episodes of the first season,I'd stick with it a little further ,and give it a chance. I was also somewhat skeptical at first ,yet intrigued enough to stick with it. I was not disappointed.

reply

Really? I was hooked almost immediately. That first episode is probably one of the best series premieres in television history.

reply

I've probablly seen the first three episodes and then parts of various episodes from the 2nd season... My younger brother was binge watching it and I was in the living room...

It just didn't do itt for me.... My brother loved it

Hmmm.....kind of sounds like you were "background" watching, which you really can't do with this show. Try starting over from the beginning ,without any distractions.Might also help to watch it by yourself, without anyone who has already seen it.

reply

I gave it three episodes of fulll attention... I'll pass... I know people like it. It's just not for me.

I rarely like shows. Maybe half a dozen from the past 20 years.

reply

You sound a bit retarded

reply

Yeah. His idea of full attention is probably laying in bed playing solitaire on his phone while the show plays on 3 volume in the background.

reply

The later seasons got more cinematic and experimental, which is usually what people are referring to.

reply

Sounds to me like they hyped it too much for you. That happens. Everyone tells you how good something is and it can't possibly live up to your expectations. It was a very good show, certainly one of the best of the last ten years.

reply

It is better than movies. I'd rather watch tv shows nowadays than movies. More room for stories.

reply

akr? didnt get the OP's weighting of tv shows vs movies , regardless of the titles

reply

I’m with you, OP. I had friends insisting that I watch it. The premise did not appeal to me at all, and I have nothing but scorn for programs interrupted by commercials. So banal. I gave it 5 eps and gave up. If you love it, good for you. Understand this: entertainment has to GRAB you right from the start, unless it’s done by someone with a proven track record. Life is too short. Banshee GRABBED me right away. This did not.

reply

and I have nothing but scorn for programs interrupted by commercials.

why would you watch programs interrupted by commercials. ??

reply

The whole show is on DVD at your local library for free. No commercials

reply

Banshee!?

Talk about a predictable dime a dozen series.

And why in the fck would you watch it with commercials.

reply

You know what I haven't had a in a while, big league chew.

reply

That was my shit back in the day!! Lol

And such unique packaging too...

reply

I can see that.
I think a lot of Breaking Bad was the hype at the time.
It is one of those things where, I think like Game Of Thrones too.
You get caught up in it because it is something to talk about with other people that are caught up in it too.
Like, I would not have normally watched Game Of Thrones. I loved the first episode, but when it started giving hints of magic and dragons, fantasy is not something that I normally can stomach, but because everyone else I knew was watching it, and it was pretty well done, I watched it, but I started to detach with all the weirdo magic stuff and by the end with flying zombie dragons and all that I was ready for it to be over.
When I go back and try to watch Breaking Bad Jesse's stupidity is a real turn off. I am not sure even if I had 200 million dollars riding on it I could stand to hang out with Jesse Pinkman!

reply

A far cry from actual movies...

Whats that mean?
what do movies have that TV shows dont?

reply

aesthetics, mood, astmophere, verve... etc...

It's a shorter, watch-in-a-single-sitting experience, which you take in all at once... That you immerse and give yourself into... Therefore they are made differently and with more of an authorial voice...

It's a completely different experience...

reply

What are you looking for here?

We don't care if you don't watch any more of it.
