My four biggest problems with this show (spoilers... i guess....)

1. It's so slow.

It's just so slow. Walter does something "amazing" in one ep, then it's just five more episodes of him being whipped by his wife and her being all like "what are you DOING? where are you going!??!". When she eventually finds out, it's like, no big deal she just finds a way to deal with it and accept it.

2. Not one single openly gay character.

Gus is often speculated to be gay. But hey guess what, the rest of the show has no-one who's gay.
I know there's not exactly a lot of gay guys who get involved in the violent world of drug dealing but still.. if you could just throw one in there somewhere to acknowledge we exist that might be more befitting of the supposedly best show "of all time" (that phrase is so annoying). Instead we got Jesse's few tidbits of casual homophobia (yes I know that was accepted in 2009-2013 and I am not a snowflake and I can take it)

3. Walter Jr. is an insult to disabled people and he's a token character.

How come he never gets a girlfriend in 5 whole seasons?
He was actually good looking, just like Hank said in the beginning. Even if he just got some girl then she left, it would be better than nothing. It's pathetic. He exists as nothing but a one-note character for 5 whole seasons. Incredibly lazy writing with no character development. Jesus christ. Awful.

4. Lack of variety/new characters.
Once Walter meets Gus there's pretty much only 5 or 6 main characters for 3 whole seasons. It's the slowest ever game of "cat and mouse" between Hank and Walter. I mean I was like... "we get it, Hank doesn't know, even though he talks to Walt every day! HAHAHA!"

I dare you to say something that actually proves me wrong instead of just calling me names or questioning my approach to the show or whatever.

All of the things you mentioned happen in real life. Sometimes things are slow. Sometimes there are no gays around and some guys don’t have girlfriends.

reply

So I can just watch real life instead of a TV show then? I was complaining it was unentertaining and repetitive, not "unrealistic".

reply

"I know there's not exactly a lot of gay guys who get involved in the violent world of drug dealing but still.. if you could just throw one in there somewhere to acknowledge we exist that might be more befitting of the supposedly best show "of all time""

You've kind of described the problem I have with this woke culture. Adding characters in based on their sexuality for the sake of representation rather than whether they're relevant to the story or not. Maybe Gus is gay, maybe Gale is gay. You can assume they are if you like but them being openly gay wouldn't have much importance to the story and the parts they play in it.

reply

You dont have to make a major character gay just for the sake of it. You just have to throw in one gay side character, honestly. Just so we see that the nerds writing it have a full grasp of the spectrum of humanity.

reply

That’s absolutely silly.

reply

What about transgenders, or Asian people, or ginger people etc.? Maybe they feel under-represented too, so we should start throwing characters in there to tick each box off? That's not how it should work.

reply

If this isn't trolling, if this person is truly being genuine, then society really is f_cked.

reply

Really? Society is fucked cause I wanted 1 single gay character in 5 seasons... rather than because so-called adult people spend all day on a crappy "social network" shouting cuck and boomer at each other. And also because some of the media demands that we suck up to the world's most violent religion and if you don't you're a "racist".

What would you know about society you horrendous dweeb.

You say you want gay characters in your shows but you also don’t like tokenism. If a show inserted characters just so they exist, isn’t that tokenism? Wouldn’t you rather have a well rounded character that is gay instead of being one note?

reply

It seems like OP doesn't reply to comments that proves them wrong.

reply

1. Personally, I liked the pace of the show.

2. I have no idea. Don't remember who was and who was not gay. I'll take your word for it. I really don't care about counting gay people in movies/tv shows.

3. Walt Jr. is a great character and the actor did a good job with it too. As for not having a GF, disabled people have a VERY hard time finding mates/GFs/BFs/ etc. This is not my opinion. It is fact.

4. Some shows are about meeting new people every week and some have the same ol' characters again and again. That's the way it is. If you like it. watch it.

reply

I didn't share a single one of your problems. I don't think it's a matter of being right or wrong, just personal feeling.

Only problem I had with it, was that it's too bleak (certainly I didn't feel good after watching), and at the same time not dark enough considering what our hero is really doing.

Still, this show is the shit from start to finish.

reply

The "slowness" is what allowed you to get to know the characters though, and the extended non-dialogue scenes made it more artistic. But yeah, they could have shortened up on the family breakfast scenes once in a while.

reply

Why is the show obligated to have an openly gay character? (Also pretty sure fring is gay, it was pretty much confirmed in Better Call Saul). Also sorry the show was too much for you to handle. I on the other hand couldn’t stop watching it

reply

Also its not as if we don't have enough forced gay characters in tv these days. Such a dumb critique.

reply

Im sure you think that gay people only exist to annoy you...

reply

Strawman, not a single person on this thread is saying that except for you.

reply

Nice assumption. You seem fun

reply

It can move quite slow at times. I didn't mind my first watch, but on rewatching, I tend to skip good chunks of most episodes.

What do you mean by "openly gay"? How do you know who was gay and who wasn't other than people wee see in hetero relationships/encounters? Maybe Gomey was gay. Maybe Gale was gay. Maybe that asian(?) girl at the gas station was gay. Maybe Fring, or any of his henchmen, etc. What exactly did you want from this "openly gay" character? Just as a nod to the gay community? That is exactly how shows should NOT be written.

Walt Jr. is an insult to disabled people because he didn't get a girlfriend? Huh?

I don't see a problem with the cast or the "lack of new characters". Perhaps this show just isn't for you.

reply

"Just as a nod to the gay community? That is exactly how shows should NOT be written."

I said, so that the show acknowledges all of humanity. Why are you asking me questions I already answered?

If this show went the whole 5 seasons without having a black character you better bet there would have been trouble. Just be quiet.

"Perhaps this show just isn't for you."

Yeah... "me" being "a vaguely demanding person with taste"?
Who also doesn't want to see drug dealers with magical powers to sense bombs under his car... lol

reply

"I said, so that the show acknowledges all of humanity."

So a nod to the gay community. I really don't care about diversity. I care about good media. If it serves the story that is great, if it doesn't it shouldn't be there.

"Yeah... "me" being "a vaguely demanding person with taste"? "
What is with all the quotes? I don't think you know what they denote.

"Who also doesn't want to see drug dealers with magical powers to sense bombs under his car"
What? He is very careful and realized someone might have known he was there so he did something unpredictable to stay safe. I don't think you fully grasped that scene but considering you don't know how to use quotation marks and think diversity is the key to a good show I am not surprised at all.
