make sure u rent this movie first because to be honest this movie is typical "i wanna be art" australian crap. i found to be music completly out of place...and that cliche - u can hear music when she has headphones on, and ones she takes them of the music cuts off as well...yawn.
why all australian movies look the same lately. can we do some "comercial" stuff as well?

ibe6ube9, please, go back to watching simple PG13/M rated movies and leave the quality to the grown ups. Acolytes is up there with The Square, Noise, Visitors, Wolf Creek in the new wave of Australian cinema. See it at all costs!

I happily forked over $30 for a copy. Its a fantastic film.

What's with the "arty" accusations? Its a genre film and looks like a genre film. Very chilling and incredibly constructed. Aussie cinema is starting to see a return of the genre movie with the likes of Wolf Creek, Storm Warning, The Long Weekend, Black Water and Rogue. Its a fantastic and exciting time in our industry!!

I love the fact that because the film is visually lovely and also brutal that it ends up being accused of being pretentious or aiming too high.

I'm sure the film-makers are very apologetic about the fact that they made a visually captivating thriller.

And what's with the headphones comment? It's not as if the device was used ad nauseam throughout the entire film. People are ridiculous. The film is gorgeous and twisted and so reviewers complain about the fact we can hear what a character plays on her headphones!

I really agree! This movie is dull, mediocre script and has horrible ending. I made the mistake of renting it on itunes and wasted 4.99 and more important my time!! This movie sucks!! as do most australian movies i have seen. I'll stick with American, French German well... everything but australian from now on.

All Australian movies "look the same"? I can't see that myself.

When you said you'd like the Australian film industry to "do some 'commercial' stuff as well" I wondered what you had in mind. Strictly speaking, a "commercial" film is just one that makes a profit, but those scare quotes suggest that you're thinking of something else. Would you mind elaborating?
