Burke and Hare

Just saw Burke and Hare...awful. Is this better?

reply

yes, considerably.
i didn't like burke and hare either, but this one, although weird, uneven and a bit slow at times, i quite enjoyed. can't guarantee you'll like it, it's not for everyone, but you'll at least agree that it's better than burke and hare.

There are two Burke and Hare's; one from '72 and the other more recent. I haven't seen either. Are they both bad?

Burke and Hare with Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) is hilarious!!!... but this kind of dark humor isn't for everyone.. it just depends on your taste...

I saw "I Sell the Dead" first and am a big fan of Dominic M (LOST) but I really enjoyed Burke & Hare more because it's "darker" though still a comedy. Check it out.. what harm could that do.

Much of a muchness, I think.
They are different styles - One is a small, independant production that relies on certain tricks and ways of staging the story to carry the film. The other had a load of money and stuff, so is more formulaic.

I do not feel strongly about either. Both are sound and as well-made as each other. I Sell does make a joking reference to B&H in the script, which I picked up on. Nice touch.

But yeah. Suck it and see. That's all I can say, really.

Is it based on the same story/people? When I first read the description, that's what I immediately thought. Burke and Hare had so much potential but never really clicked, sadly.

Eeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrmmmm..... Not exactly, no.
Sort of, but not really.
I sell is more graverobbing, while B&H is more bodysnatching/killing to order. The two professions share parallels, of course, which is likely where the similarity originates.

But the two are fairly different films.

Ehh.....that would be cool if it were similarly based on a true story.

Because despite not actually robbing graves they are probably still the most famous grave robbers in history. I sell referenced the actual factual schmactual people, not the movie. 'tard.

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

reply

I didn't say it referenced the B&H film, did I... feckwitt!

Then don't call me a 'tard, you lowlife queerbait... especially when *you're* the one who made a woefully inaccurate assumption in the first place!!

Incidentally, I have never scratched ANY kind of bird...
