Straight ahead fun, no Hollywood b.s.

As a Yankee myself seing the utter crap that gets marketed in the states, and now stumbling upon British films, i'm pissed off.....Movies like this would make alot of money in the states, i wish i coulda seen this in the theatre. In the last week, i've seen Football Factory, Green Street Hooligans, The Business, Outlaw, Goodbye charlie bright, I.D., The Firm, all for the first time, WHERE THE *beep* WERE THESE MOVIES IN THE STATES, all top notch films passed over by Hollywood and therefore i'm just now getting to watch them through word of mouth.

Wake up Hollywood, British films are kicking your ass, stop putting money into vin diseal Fast and Furious and put some time promoting solid films like the ones i've mentioned.

Glad your enjoying our crop of films, mate.

British Films in my opinion have not gotten the Correct praise by the us dumb Yankees in the states, i have no problem calling Hollywood a bunch of total wankers, the films i've mentioned in the above post have a huge market place in America, problem is the pussies in Hollywood won't take a chance on anything.....Anyways British filmakers keep up the good work, us Yankees are catching on to your great film making....

Also give 'Human Traffic' and 'Twin Town' a watch.

Never complain, never explain!

To the op:

Green Street Hooligans was only good because it sucked so damn bad. It was like watching and Ed Wood film. Did actually buy Frodo as a hoolie? Hollywood does churn out lots of crap but if you think a handfull of British hooligan films are better than most American films then I'd say you're bonkers.

But you should still check out the flicks someone listed above. Good stuff.

reply

Signed. *beep* movie rules. I was actually shocked (I've seen plenty of violent movies, mind you) when I saw this for the first time. Its not just violent, its GRITTY. I love those types of films.

reply

Whilst praise for British films is always gratefully received, maybe you should lavish it on a film that deserves it?

This film is pretty poor. I am not sure how anyone can try and make us feel sorry for the three dead guys - they were *beep*

reply

Not all of us have the best in life. Some of us have to be *beep* in order to make something of ourselves. These people grew up in this atmosphere, and eventually died in it. Not really unlike anyone else with a legit life.

Besides, it wasnt a poor film. It had a good pace, decent acting (especially near the end with the lead taking puffs of his cigarette in between breaths - very believable), and it had drama.

Its not an award winner, but its a good movie.

reply

I loved it

It was gritty as hell, and as ugly as reality is!!! I watch New Jack City, and I think: Hmmph! I watch ... Footsoldier, and I think Holy ***&^ing shyte!!!

It's not awesome, because of the effects, or the budget, or the cinematography. It's awesome because of the reality of it all, the believability, and how raw and gritty it is. Very shocking, very frightening, and very easy to immerse oneself' in.

I Australia -at least in my circles- there's a lot of sentiment that american gangsters are just trying to live up to (or down to, perhaps) the standards set by british gangsters. Seeing the brutality of some of these mugs, it's not hard to believe.

Man that was unsettling.

Three cheers for everyone involved.

Hooray....

reply

If you want a first class education in American Gangster's watch Mean Streets, Goodfellas, and Casino in that order. Then you can see all angles of what a real crime organization is all about. Lock Stock, Layer Cake, Snatch, and Trainspotting I all liked but they are generally showing small organizations just trying to get a taste.

btownsend8366, you're full of sh*t. Your post clearly indicated you're British, not American. What kind of American refer to himself as Yank?

You are clearly a petty Brit trying to pump up some petty British pride in films. It's pathetic really. And you just so happened to pick the worst movie to do so. There are plenty of good British films. This isn't one of them.

reply

I live in Atlanta Ga, was born in raised in the states sorry to dissapoint you, i called myself a yank as a joke because that's what british people call americans, get overyourself, if you don't like the movie then move on you soppy *beep*

reply

Soppy cu*t? And you claim to be American? Nice try.

Every single one of your posts is about British films. You're a terrible liar.

reply

I wish people would stop calling this a gritty and realistic film.

It certainly isnt. All it is at the end of the day is a glamourisation of football hooliganism in 80's Britain. Thats it really, plus a swathe of dodgy cockney accents and some obligatory football chants thrown in (as well as random cries of "West Ham").

If Americans think this is good British cinema, god help them.

its nice to hear from a yank...but watch this is england or dead man's shoes, they're by far my favourite, probably two better films to add to the list

reply

Don't forget to watch Shallow Grave and Kevin&Perry Go Large. More british goodness.

reply

thanks for the suggestions, i just watched "This is England", great movie, and Cass, also very good... I have been turning my friends onto British cinema and they have loved all the movies i have shown them....alot of them like them then ANY American film they've seen in a long time....

just goes to show you that British films have a market here in the states, Movie tycoons just won't take a chance.

reply

This is England is really good. I've watched it several times now, and how the atmosphere changes in the whole movie with Shaun moving from Woody's camp (where it's all fun) to Combo's camp (where it's all hard ass) is very very well executed. Oh and Smell is hot.
