Distasteful theme ?

Anyone else think that the premise of the film in that the abused always becomes the abuser and should never be allowed to have children a bit distasteful and although sometimes it happens its not always the case. In any case the film was a waste of my four squid...and there appears to be no clear answers.

Wouldn't say 'distasteful', although the theme was somewhat cliché

They did make mention that the doctor had died a number of years previously so that was probably back in the day when psychiatry field didn't have as much knowledge as it does today hence his attitude regarding that
