Terrible film

I watched this movie today after searching around on my OnDemand for a while. The movie seemed to have an interesting premise. The description read that a woman working night shifts in an abandoned hospital begins linking a series of local murders to the institution. It sounded intriguing.

The movie started off good enough and I though this would end up being a neat little psychological thriller. Well, psychological it is, but it's far from well put together. The acting was pretty bad from almost all the lead actors. Michael Biehn is the exception here, but he was drastically underused. Obviously he's not getting much work these days because it's sad to see that he had to stoop to such low levels to be in this movie.

The editing was even worse. I could never keep up with what was going on and I'm generally all for movies that make you think about what you just saw. But this movie jumps from scene to scene and Roslyn moves from one location to another in an instant. They throw in the scene where Cary Elwes character is talking to the girl in the chair so randomly, it almost makes you wonder what the editor was thinking. And even though it later makes sense to the plot it's still mindnumbingly distracting.

And don't even get me started on the ending. I would assume that we're supposed to believe that Roslyn was the killer in the end. But if that's the case then how did she do it when she's been in the hospital all night? The one blonde girl that is found dead in the tub at the end of the film is supposedly killed by her, yet we see that Roslyn is at home with her husband having dinner while all this is happening. So I have to assume that either Roslyn is the killer and can teleport to places in an instant, or that the killer is never revealed and that I wasted time watching a movie that was supposed to be about a killer.

I give this movie 3/10 stars because it had a good atmosphere and a good idea. But otherwise it was a jumbled mess of a film. Session 9 is a much better example of a similar film.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.
