Old Man

Hey, I put this movie on towards the middle and I was wondering if someone could tell me why they beat up the old man? Did something happen earlier in the film? I couldn't stand to watch that part, it was horrible :(

I just saw this film yesterday (I took a sick day from work and this made me feel even worse) and I don't understand this scene either.

*SPOILER* (though I can't imagine anyone caring for these "spoils")
To partially answer your question...after the gang gets done raping that girl on the mattress, they walk through the street then they go into an apartment where the Romeo dude has a key. Was there some quick dialogue that explained this? How did he happen to have the key to this gent's apartment? They bust open the door of the terrified man, beat the crap out of him then give him an enema! Why would anyone want to do that? I don't get it. It seemed like this bit was thrown in for kicks.

I'm trying to imagine some thugs hanging out on the corner. "Hey, Man, what do you wanna do tonight? Score some blow, check out some chicks?"

"No man, I want to give an old man an enema!"

"Yea! That sounds great! Count me in!"

It's hard to imagine this happening, but I'm sure in "Cracktown" it's an everyday occurance!

they wanted his social security check, it happens alot a young kid will kind of "romance" a lonley elderly person with friendship and when they gain their trust and get a way in they become abusive and threaten the checks out of them

I think it's possible that he was related to the old man somehow (Evan Ross' father is white in real life) and that would explain why he had a key.

reply

Maybe just because he was defenseless, and they could get his social security check.

It is clear that Romeo and his "crew" were doing exactly was jezus tapdancing wrote. Abuse of the elderly is far more common than many people realize. Many elderly people are threatened, abused and even murdered for their social security checks. It is terribly sad.

As for the "motivation" to harm and essentially rape that poor man...well, when you are dealing with a group of thugs that smoke crack and don't give a flip 'cuz they don't have anything to lose, nearly anything can happen. There is a definite pack mentality going on with Romeo and his homies. After what they did to that girl in the beginning of the film, it is quite obvious that these animals will do any and everything.

i was glad Romeo cried in the end.

All I know is I'm glad some directors have the guts to portray blacks as thieves, rapists and/or murderers. Most of Hollywood is cowardly and they'll always use caucasians as the evil doers...that's totally false and complete bull.
The scene in this film where the black gang beat up on the elder white man made me so angry, because this does happen. If the older fella was related to me, say, my dad, I'd have the gang members skinned.
