Nuremberg

Not to long ago I finished Nuremberg: Infamy on Trial and it was pretty heavy, but something everyone should read. It shows the trial more from the US and British point of views (I would've like to hear more about Russia and France as well), but really interesting interviews with the 21 prisoners from the psychiatrists that were stationed there. Very fascinating (and scary - it gave me nightmares).

Anyway that being said I'm really looking forward to this film. They talk a bit about Eichmann in the book. Him and the others that got away come across almost as figments of the imagination, they're just so unbelievably...I guess evil....although that word can't quite capture how they truly are. I don't think any words can.

I beg your pardon but the allies did not try to systematically exterminate entire races of people, killing SIX MILLION innocent men, women and children in the process.

The Russians and their master Joe Stalin most certainly did murder millions of his own people. They were innocent!

reply

Stalin wasn't as insidious and therefore seen as lesser the devil you know. Besides the allies being a democracy couldn't take the losses of a dictatorship because the more losses a democracy take the less likely they will vote.
Besides Hitler was a far more insidious bastard than Stalin.

Eleven million. The Nazis killed eleven million people. It was only six million Jews that were killed. You're forgetting about the Gypsies, Homosexuals, Communists, Catholics, Mentally Challenged.

The allies systematically bombed Germany and killed hundred of thousands of
civilians and raped a milion of women. Why they weren't punished for these
crimes?

You've been reading David Irving, haven't you?

Actually I'm reading Jörg Friedrich's The Fire - The Bombing of Germany

reply

So, you're reading a book by a man who has drawn parallels between the Einsatzgruppen and British pilots? Good call. Friedrich's claim of 670k is more than double what most other historians have said. Another point is that, despite what the author claims, the targeting of civilians began with Germany, even Goering admitted to the systemic targeting of UK civilians.

And, for the record, you might want to directly respond to the person instead of your own post. It gives you a better chance of getting a response.

The British Airforce started the targeting of civilians. First the British bombed Moenchengladbach (North-Rhine) at night on 12th May 1940. Then many other German towns followed during the months before the 'Battle of Britain'. Because the British hadn't yet the heavy bombers they used in great numbers (attacks with 1000 bombers) from 1942 onwards, the human and material losses remained rather limited in 1940.
The British called their conception 'Moral Bombing' because they wanted to subvert the moral of the working class population by killing as many civilians as possible living in the industrial towns. Already in the 1920's the British Airforce in principle developed the conception of area bombing against civilian populations. In the 1930's the necessary heavy bombers were constructed but building them only started after the beginning of WW 2 because of the high costs.
The British 'target figure' for killing civilians was 1 million+. The number of German civilian deaths of the bomb war probably is slightly lower than that figure. But we don't know for sure because the German historians always try to get the lowest figure - but only for German war casualties.

Agree with Mr. Wooster. And the NAZI's also killed those with a physical disability as well.
