Did she already know him?

I got the impression that it was somewhat vague about whether or not she knew him - I actually assumed she actually was his ex girlfriend from years before. It seems that everyone else thinks she never met him before the first prison visit. Did I blink and miss a piece of dialog?

I think she didn't know him personally. Look that Jang Jin gives to her apears to me as if he don't know who she is. I think she somehow identified herself with him, and that she really wanted to help him through his last days.
