Gay cell-mate?

Anyone has any idea or opinion on the young cell-mate?
He seems to have developed some sort of affections for Jangin, but I don't think he is gay in the strictest sense.
My take is he is extremely insecure and seeks affection and Jangin is the best candidate. In a scene he shouted 'Mom' and awoke from sleep, so he probably killed his mother or caused her death in some way.
However the photo-stealing is rather telling of how much he is trying to get Jangin's attention. Or on the other hand, he is just jealous of the new love he found.
Also, does anyone have a clue why in a particular scene the cell-mates curdle up in sleep in imitation of Jangin's crime? What is the intention?

i think young cell mate really loves jangjin.
the last winter song, yeon didnt sing to jangjin but young boy did for him.
basically, they starved affection in common.
