I was sorely disappointed... and annoyed

It seemed that when compiling this list they were just looking for splatter porn, horror/comedy and threw in some odd inclusions of weak, contemporary horror. The moment Eli Roth said that Dead/Alive quenched his thirst for blood and that it was "the greatest movie" he ever saw, this little TV special lost what little credibility it began with. One poster was correct when s/he said they were confusing gross with scary. It's one thing to gross somebody out, but it's another thing for a movie to get under your skin, make your hair stand up, tap into your psyche and truly frighten you.

Most of the guest speakers wouldn't know scary if it bit them in the ass and clearly they don't, as they had their hand in some recent "horror" movies that were not all that great. Basically I saw this special as these filmmakers just giving themselves a pat on the back, trying to make themselves feel better about the lackluster films they released upon us. Not to mention the fact that they were not very articulate in their interviews and tried to make these movies appear intellectual, allegorical, and symbolic.

I think I heard one of the girls say, "What makes this movie so scary is that you never know what's going to happen next." Isn't that true of any spectacular horror movie (which hardly any of these were)? Be. More. Specific.

Rob Zombie (referring to the new Dawn of the Dead): "The fast-moving zombies add a whole other thing... like... you're screwed!"

Some douchebag (referring to Red Eye): "Wes Craven can take a goofy pen like this and make it scary!" Anyone remember that little goblin pen? Rachel McAdams used it to stab Cillian Murphy with the throat. There was no subtext behind it, it wasn't really a plot catalyst, this guy is retarded.

Slither? Army of Darkness? Red Eye? Saw 2? Hostel? The Exorcism of Emily Rose? The Grudge? Christine? Cabin Fever? Wolf Creek? Land of the Dead? Open Water? REALLY?! 13 of the movies were from the last 5 years and there hasn't been a really decent horror movie since The Ring remake.

Any cheeky, self-aware, self-referential, slaptstick horror/comedy that TRIES to be a cult classic should have been deemed ineligible.

I'm aware these lists are to be taken with a grain of salt (though I still love them and find them entertaining because I adore cinema) but damn, this list is in insult to the idea of movie lists.

Aw *beep* nuts. Fed up with them always. I long for a grapefruit.

No no, I agree about The Ring. It's one of those movies that you could say, (if this makes sense) it wasn't scary, but it was scary!!! Like it got up under you in a way? I liked it. And I think it is way decent than say hostel?

Catch you on the flip-side!! with love

what's slap-stick humor?

Humor that revolves around people getting injured in ridiculous ways. Think "Three Stooges."

I agree with everything you wrote, hawrnball. This list is a joke. It felt like they were obligated to include the lame movies of all the actors that agreed to appear on the special. In fact, I'm pretty sure the "list" was made up after every one showed up to film this special. I also happen to love these types of lists and shows but I was actually offended at the inclusion of more than half of these movies, especially frickin' Hostel at #1. The whole show felt like an Eli Roth a**-kissing fest. I still don't get why that guy gets all this adoration. His movies might have been something if he could reign it that juvenile fan-boy side of him but instead, his flicks are a pastiche of everything he's ever happen to see and like in his entire life without concern for maintaining a consistent tone. And I forgot I'd even seen Open Water until they mentioned it. LAME.

My friend and I find it mostly dull, too.

I noticed that not all guest speakers made the IMDB list. I'll try contacting.

I too was disappointed by this list

too short & too many recent films, while certain older films (Maniac, Sleepaway Camp, Cannibal Holocaust, Eraserhead, etc.) got the shaft, especially SC in particular

I agree. The list sucked. They just said "Oh it was so scary, it was so horrifying, it's the best horror movie ever." And half the movies were not even remotely scary. Dead Alive? Army of Darkness? American Psycho? Slither? This list should just be called "The 30 greatest horror comedies."

A month ago I watched the program again to see what I missed, and they have zero idea what they are talking about. In example, they mentioned the scenes in American Psycho where he talks about music before killing people. Dude! He was talking about HUEY FREAKIN LEWIS!!!!! I thought it was hilarious that this badass psycho killer listened to Huey Lewis!!! And they didn't even say that DA was scary and funny. DA isn't even scary at all, just funny, and kinda gross actually.

Some movies I thought fit well on the list include "Videodrome" (film messed me up as a 14 year old), "The Grudge" (or at least the scene they showed), "Saw", "Fear" (actually it is kinda scary if you think about it- I mean, the fact that Mark Wahlberg was obsessed with that girl was scary), "Vertigo" (Erm it is scary to me, but it's not really scary in how they define it- I mean, if it's on a list that includes Saw and Wolf Creek, then Psycho has to be on there too), and "Manhunter" (to me, MH and SOTL are the ONLY Hannibal Lecter movies ever).

The rest is all FAIL.

Lame examples include "Saw 2" (it was good but not really all that scary), "A Clockwork Orange" (good movie but saying ACWO was scary to me is like saying that Grave of the Fireflies is a comedy), "Red Eye", "Wolf Creek" (Lame torture porn), "Scanners" (Gore does not scary make), "Christine" (Sooo scary that I forgot to get scared while watching it), "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" (What. The. F--k.) and most importantly, HOSTEL!!!!!! Hostel is the lamest movie ever made IMO. It's just bloody for the sake of being bloody and not even remotely scary. Gory? You'll get more gore on an episode of CSI, laddie!

They should have just included actual scary movies, like some David Lynch! How about the club Silencio scene!!!!

2010 is the year of the wolf, baby.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for a good "clip show," and even I have to admit this was pretty weak. The movies are mostly uninteresting American gore-fests, and the commentators offer little in terms of insight or humor.

It really suffers in comparison to the original "100 Scariest Movie Moments," which featured classic films and more knowledgeable commentators (Coors twins notwithstanding).

I wish they would have focused a bit more on European and Asian horror films, but Bravo is an American television network so...

I agreed with Clockwork Orange making the list. That movie was disturbing.
