If you were to leave the cinema and have the option of telling a friend to watch this movie or not to, which would you choose? I only ask this because I don't know whether to see it myself at the cinema or wait for the dvd

It depends what you want. Some of the photography was beautiful and seeing it on a widescreen underlined the beauty. But this was not a film focused on the photography so it was not an original in that sense. I enjoyed the story and enjoyed the film more than some of the reviews suggested. I also have a weak spot for Matthias Schoenaerts and like seeing him on the big screen! Given this I would say see it in the cinema. In fact virtually every decent film is a must-see at the cinema.

You will not miss much if you wait for the dvd release. It was decent but nothing special. On the other hand: movies are actually meant for watching it in the theatre. So if you are a genuine cinephile you should see any movie first in the cinema.

I found it dull and predicatable. An Atonement wannabe. The excellent Michelle Williams was wasted. I saw nothing to ever make me want to see it again. Wait for the rental.
