is this not any good?

I get the impression that this got mostly bad reviews and is not worth seeking out?
What do the non professional critics on here think?

If people say that it is not awful I might give it a go?

Well, I personally really liked this movie. I thought it painted a really interesting picture of a WWII occupied village, and I was also swept up in the romance, which I found to be a believable one - I knew they weren't going to give me a happy ending, but I hoped for one any way. Whilst romance is a significant part of the film, it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the story, which is one of adjusting to life under enemy rule.

I think the actors did a good job, and it was refreshing to see slightly older leads. I love piano, so the soundtrack was quite good. Visually, it was lovely.

I will add that whilst I did buy the book last year, I have only just got around to beginning it, so I cannot compare the two as of yet. The trailer reminded me of the 1952 film 'So Little Time' as it shares a few similarities - all coincidental, as no one knew 'Suite Francaise' existed at that time.

Anyway, I think it's worth you giving it a shot. Even if it's not your thing, you probably won't hate it.
