This is surprising but wonderful news! Looks like SOMEBODY at NBC has a soul...

TEAM CONAN

reply

That's fantastic news!

I got news for 'em. There's gonna be hell to pay. 'Cause I ain't Daddy's little boy no more.

reply

Thank God. But even if they didn't, I'm sure Conan & co. would find a way to get around it... Letterman did. :)

reply

Hmm...I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, I'm happy that Conan would be able to use the characters we have all grown to love and enjoy. On the other hand, I was excited to find out what NEW characters him and his team could come up with. So I'm hoping he uses new ones and brings out the old school every once in a rare while as a special treat. I guess we'll see.

AWSOME!

NBC coming out with a good show is NOT the event.

reply

All I care about is Triumph and Masturbating Bear, the rest I couldn't careless if they came back. But those two are the ones I would hate to see go.

This, Ariande, would be a kick.

reply

I could live without the Masturbating Bear... I think I'm in the vast minority, but I've just never found that character funny... :/

dude have you eva watched Conan before? In this discussion we have to forget the Tonight Show because he never once brought out any characters. On Late Night the Masturbating Bear, Triumph, other memorable characters ONLY DID MAKE RARE appearances. Like Conan would occasionally do a bit where he brought out "new fall characters or something. So basically there would constantly be new characters anyway. So you being excited about new characters doesnt make much sense.

reply

Cool. But NBC can keep Conando for as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Noches de Pasion con Senor O'Brien was Conan's lame and calculated attempt at reaching out to a Mestizo-ized Los Angeles. All it did was make me feel uncomfortable.

That was the joke that set up the Conando skits, but it wasn't really an attempt to reach out to a Latino/Los Angeles-based audience. That was just the gag, but they were doing Conando skits long before Conan took his show out west.

I don't remember seeing Conando on the Late Night show. When did the character originate?

reply

Son, I am disappoint.

Conando was on Late Night when NBC acquired Telemundo and Conan wanted to create some content for them.

reply

Hey! Sometimes I just couldn't stay up past midnight to watch the show!

I also wouldn't really care if the bear didn't return. I don't get the humor there.

reply

Masturbating Bear and actually most of the characters have in fact run their course. The only one I would really miss is Triumph. The other ones can make some sporadic returns but he shouldn't rely on them. I'm pretty confident they will come up with more funny characters when Conan isn't feeling the pressure of an institution like The Tonight Show. Let's all be honest here, most if not all the new TTS bits weren't near as funny as the stuff he did on Late Night. I'm sure they will to better on the new show. Some nostalgia, okay. But new characters are needed.
