Jay Leno may turn up on Conan O'Brien's couch

There are rampant rumors circulating that Jay Leno will make a guest appearance on Conan O'Brien's first show on TBS this November, when the exiled NBC mainstay makes his long awaited return to television.

There's just one problem.

Executives at NBC are reportedly against the idea of Leno making a classy appearance Conan O'Brien's show to wish his former colleague well.

But is this a missed opportunity for NBC to gain by having Jay Leno restore some of the PR luster his name lost in the late night TV debacle that left many thinking O'Brien was wrongfully stripped of the Tonight Show?

Some say it is.

And, as a result, there's always a possibility that NBC will reconsider. Both O'Brien and Leno are said to be up for the appearance.

Conan O'Brien's new program is scheduled to begin November 8th.

If true,Why would he agree to that?Hes gonna have so much publicity for his new show, Leno is gonna suffer because of it.Why give him a share of it by putting him on the show?

Maybe its a way to say everyones over it but I dont see why this needs to happen. He doesnt need the extra publicity.Very strange.

Well that would certainly be awkward. I understand that 'everyone's over it' but there's always going to be hard feelings. Forgiven but not forgetten sort of thing. I don't think, if I were in Conan's shoes, that having Leno on my new show to wish me luck would bode well with me.

I can't see Jay Leno being classy with Conan.

NBC coming out with a good show is NOT the event.

reply

Leno would only do this to suck up to both his old fans, who ditched him and also the Conan crowd. If Leno really wanted to wish Conan luck, he'd simply get on the telephone and say "Good luck, Conan" and that be that.

reply

...what. I somehow have a hard time believing this. I don't know why Jay would ever do this, and I don't know why Conan would ever agree to it. The best thing Conan can do now is just completely put Jay behind him after the mess he and NBC have caused. Conan needs to be looking ahead and not at the past troubles of The Tonight Show

And that's exactly why it won't happen.

Jay will listen to his bosses at NBC and that's that.

reply

If this is real and NBC is forbidding Leno to do it, they're even more stupid than we already knew they were.

I just can't see why O'Brien would want to do this, he's finally not attached to Leno anymore and he's going to be there in his first show on a new network? It's clear why Leno would want to do it but why would Conan want to? Having him over after a few shows, why not. But not on premiere night.

I just can't imagine Leno showing up at ALL. Seriously, could you even imagine how awkward that interview would be?

"So, how is stealing my job going for you?"

reply

Jay would get through it by laughing awkwardly, telling jokes no matter how awkward the situation got, and not looking Conan in the eye...just like he did with Jimmy Kimmel.

Yup. Then he'll start complaining about how he was sucker punched and how he is a victim of an unprovoked attack. That's Leno's cowardice.

That sounds like a very good reason to do it right there. Conan and Jay demonstrating that they are, indeed, over this chapter would be setting a good example for everyone to follow.

That idea sounds ok, but only on paper.

In reality, the rowdy audience would boo The Chin right off the stage!!! I have to say, sounds like great TV!!!

I'm sure everybody who enjoys hating would adore it.

I think having Jay and Conans first real conversation on t.v. would be bad I don't think they should have any public confrontation for a few years if not ever. I would love to see Jay get booed off stage but if a Leno fan were in the audience that night it could get ugly.

We lost the remote The Tonight Show came on... there were no survivors.

i hope leno never comes on the show! he'll ruin the mood and the fun! yeah, he may only be on for a bit, but once he has tarnished those floors with his presence, the show will be ruined! if he wants to make good with conan and his audience, a live phone call will suffice, but we don't need to see that talentless hack on our conan show! that's just how i feel about it. haha!
