I hope my post does not offend anyone....

I'm assuming Joe is supposed to be mentally challenged. I've looked at all the comments here and read the Wikipedia article, but there's nothing even close to a mention of it. He seemed fairly functional overall, however the idea of roaming the streets in search of someone to stay in the house, was quite disturbing to me.

I'm not that knowledgeable regarding the specifics of mental illness, so please pardon my ignorance. Thanks for your understanding.

Joe being mentally challenged was not a part of the plot, so there was no reason to bring attention to it.

I'm watching on demand and the plot summary described him as autistic, but that's the only mention of it I ever saw. Seems accurate. I'd believe he was highly functional but on the spectrum.

I must agree. He is high functioning. This is part of what feels different. I was drawn to the film for his oddness! Some of my best friends are on the Autism Spectrum.
