A coke can would not be fizzy or bubbly

When he opened the can and it made the noise of a coke can releasing the carbonated gases I thought "good job sound effects guy, that can would be flat."

Then the boy says it's "bubbly."

What?!?! No!

A can of soda will go flat in 6-9 months.

The boy looks 10 years old.

reply

you're not wrong, but there are more unrealistic prop fails out there.

reply

Missed opportunity for the dad to try and explain why the flat coke used to be fizzy and what that means.

reply

I didn't buy that they found that bunker in the first place. I think in this type of world, women and children would be dead within 6 months of the event. Strider would be alone eating people like Robert Duvall and the other cannibals.

reply

but a can is completely sealed..... why would there be no pop left?

reply

I'm not sure of the science but it does go flat inside of a can.

reply

sad..... and strange, since a aluminum can in theory is completely sealed.... unlike a plastic bottle with a twist off cap

Gas and fluids leak through metals. For instance, normal copper water pipe will hold water just fine but if you put oil in it at the same pressure it will leak through the copper metal instantly. A pop can may hold it's pressure for a while but it's going to leak pressure over time.

"Gas leak through metals"

but this is air!

you got proof of your statement? now i am interested

reply

Air is gases.

reply

wouldn't be much of a scene if he just quietly sipped flat soda

reply

I think you could make it compelling. Maybe Dad is excited that he's going to enjoy a fizzy drink and he realises it's flat.

"It used to tickle your tongue and make you burp if you drank it too fast."

"It's still good, dad."

reply

smart!

reply

Well a lot of being a parent is wanting your kids to like what you liked and sometimes it doesn't work.

reply

Bullcrap. At my cabin i have coke-cans that are 4-5 years old and are still fizzy..

reply

Agreed. I've had beer cans that are 3-4 years old, still perfectly carbonated.

reply

Definitely depends on the storage conditions. If the cans get frozen or too hot, the fizz will be 100% gone. At least it won't get too hot anymore due to clouds all day long. As its inside a building and below things, it might also survived freezes. Then a can can survive several years, but it's unlikely that it will be after all this years so fuzzy to give you a burp.

reply

incorrect it can last for years.

the time frame you used is classed as best before which is so it maintains how the product is suppose to be.

the issue is breakdown of the other chemicals most fizzy drinks are packed with them the likes of sweeteners and flavoring but carbonated side can take many years if stored correctly.
