Why didn't they drive?

They kept passing all these cars.

"They kept passing all these cars."

The most likely explanation would be lack of fuel and flat batteries. The gang with the truck used diesel fuel but we're never told where they found it.

reply

I could have sworn the gang's truck was jury rigged to run on steam, I'll have to notice that next time...
Some have brought up why not use bicycles to cover distances faster, even leaving out the problems with tires/air/punctures it takes way more energy to bike somewhere with a heavy pack than to walk. Walking would have been the only way to go.

reply

This is just not true.
Bicycles are the most efficient form of transportation to this day.

reply

Uh? How could cycling be harder than walking? For the same physical effort, the wheels allow you to cover 10 times more ground.

Certain types of petrol begins to deteriorate and evaporate after a while especially unleaded. Since unleaded is the most popular of fuels it possible that the cars wouldn't even run. I believe diesel could last longer so they would be better of taking a semi.

There's no fuel and the roads are littered with obstacles. All those dead cars have probably had their fuel siphoned off a long time ago as everybody left alive is looking for something to burn. Also even if there were any clear stretches of road they'd be booby trapped by bandits.
