The Road

You hastily turn around and follow the exit signs out of the hospital and into the daylight. The lights hits your eyes hard as it takes you minute for them to adjust. Once they do, you see nothing but devastation around you. Dead bodies and corpses lining up the side of the road and filling the parking lot. You slowly walk around, looking shocked at all the carnage. You wonder if you slept through a war or something. You get off the hospital grounds and see a bike rack with a bikes still chained to it. When you walk up to it, you see one bike that isn’t chained well, and you were able to pull it free from the rack.

Riding down the road, you keep looking around, hoping to see something familiar to give you your bearings and an idea where you are. You keep seeing things move in the distance, like dead bodies, but they are moving. “But they aren’t moving, or they can’t be corpses. Right?” you keep thinking to yourself. The road was dead and empty with burned abandoned cars on the side of the road. Shops and buildings you passed had broken, shattered windows, cars seemed to have driven off and crashed into fire hydrants, buildings, and into other cars. Glass and debris cluttered all over the road. But you keep riding until you get to an intersection and come to a stop. You look at the sign and you recognize the roads.
