So true "Lazaroth" Samantha Who was screened in Australia (7 Network) with much fanfare last year (2008) but only a half a dozen episodes, or so went to air. Then due to the writer's strike, it disappeared off of our screens and that was the last it was heard of! A similar situation happened to "The Big Bang Theory" on the 9 Network here. It was shown over the non-ratings period over Christmas and disappered, also never to be seen again!
Shows like "Scrubs" have been into re-runs since it first went to air here many years ago and when it was picked up by new network ABC, was continued to screen seamlessly. M*A*S*H has never left Australian TV screens since 1972 when it had it's first airing and to this day, continues to be re-run & re-run in the 5pm timeslot. As soon as the final episode is screened, they automatically screen the pilot the next day and over it goes again! As far as I know, this is at least it's 4 re-screeneing in the last 10 years!
The Simpsons is another example of income generating re-runs, although there was talk recently about the 10 Network axing re-runs of The Simpsons as it has become too expensive to air them, aparently it's costs aproximatly $20,000 to air 1 episode re-run of the show!
As much as it annoys people, including myself, that great shows are axed too soon, it is the nature of the business, or any business, if it isn't making enough money, no matter how popular it is, it's axed! It reminds me of Christina's other show that suffered the same fate, "Jesse". It rated it's pants of the first season, then they "played" around with the format and screwed it up! I guess they wanted to avoid the same mistake with "Samantha Who?"
