In season one Penny was not just thinner but dressed hot; always. Hell, episode 8 in season 1, was basically stare at her boobs all out there in a low cut push up. Now, she's nothing special; although we all know she thinks she's the main draw snd not Sheldon. Last time I checked the spin off was the Sheldon show. No Penny Show, sorry.

I don't know about poor writing, but I do think it's silly for anyone to think that we stay the same. this show has been on for how many years? Everyone goes through different phases.
I'd be more surprised if the Penny character kept on trying to be that young wannabe actress that she started out to be after all yhis time. Not only would she be boring..... she's be a joke.
I do think that she could wear more flattering clothes. They don't necessarily have to be form fitting all of the time, but they also don't have to be smocks and crappy baggy pants either. Just because she's married to Leonard dosn't mean she has to let herself go.
