Raj the Idiot strikes again

That poor girl. Dude, she's separated, all you need to know at the stage of a morning-after hook-up. Not your business. She asked you to talk about something else, so do. And then referring to the ex as "potentially jealous." Assumes you're sticking around, maybe she wanted you for one night only, she's clearly already had enough for you.

And then how he gets involved and tells Nell his perspective on Oliver, and his impressions and what they should do. Because yeah Raj, your insight after one evening is definitely better than her own on her own marriage.

Raj irritates me so much. So many of his qualities are gay, so they should just make him gay. Not being mean, I'm gay myself, and I know there are effeminate straight guys which is fine, but it's more than just mannerisms, just a number of things he says that hint at it. And he is always mansplaining. He's just the worst. He used to be funny, but I feel like he's the best example on this show that all to often happens on sitcoms: one characteristic is just overplayed and blown up and exaggerated to the point of irritation, like how on Friends it was Joey's stupidity, Ross's general horribleness, Monica's anal retentiveness.

He just has trouble with socialization, like they all did initially; the difference is that the rest got over it, but he had the longest way to go. Couldn't even talk to a woman initially.

This was probably the best episode all season so far. I noticed the main writers from last season came back for it; there was a clear difference.

Fair, it is at least consistent for his character. Hopefully they give him a permanent significant other soon. It sounds like the show will end with next season. On one hand it seems silly and predictable to have them all paired off at the end. On the other, he's the only one who isn't, so he should get that, as he's seemed the most desperate all along anyway. But hopefully they'll give the character actual growth soon so it makes sense someone would stay with him (I do think he's made a few steps in the right direction, but more in regards to working on himself as a person than as a potential boyfriend), and then we can get to know them for a bit before the show ends.

I didn't notice the change in writers, good catch.

One thing I did notice. Sheldon thought he came up with empathy. Episode 9x13 was all about Sheldon learning about empathy. So much for his perfect memory ;)

Mmm, different people probably want different things. I care more about comedy than a character having a relationship. If they can get more comedy out of dating situations, keep the character single until hell freezes over I say. :)

Good catch on the empathy thing. I think that and one other thing about the episode show that either (a) the writers of this ep have been out of the loop for a while or (2) they wrote this script a while back and it's only now appearing, somewhat anachronistically.

I generally don't care that much about romantic pairings, usually a bottom concern for me. And I don't really *care* when it comes to Raj either, so much as they've spent so much time having everyone pair off and making it a focal point, that they may as well finish. If not, at least have him become a more grounded character who's actually content being single.

reply

Which does not say much for this season.

I really couldn't care less. The moment he found out she was married and separated for two weeks he should have just gotten up and left and dropped her. Raj should have just gotten away from her completely, not just "change the subject". Go find a single lady.

Does it look to you like Raj is losing his hair? New hairdo seems intended to compensate, but it's also showing some major receding of his hairline, like in the corners of his forehead.
