Leonard the Disappointing

Honestly, put aside your jealousy dude. She married you, you already won. He should've been fine with her taking the job, and when the offer was rescinded, he should've put the focus on "Let's find you a new job you'll be happy with," which he could've suggested before that point as well.

It was certainly irritating that nobody could come up with the idea of "look for a different job".

Leonard's insecurities are completely boring -- and not at all funny.

It's time to pull the plug.....

Well it took him a lifetime to build up those insecurites! Not likely that he'll get over them any time soon.

Remember when Penny was surprised that he played the cello and asked him why.

"Because being named Leonard and being in advanced classes wasn't getting me beaten up enough."

Leonard's got some heavy baggage but he better put it down or he'll lose Penny. Nothing is more of a turn-off than constant insecurity and neediness. And jealous over Zach? He was engaged. Doubtful he'd be hitting on Penny.

Penny is going to start resenting him for not trusting her. And if people want to be unfaithful, there is no way to stop them. Either you trust your spouse or you don't.

Hi PJ,

Everything you say is true, but from the writers' (and the viewers') standpoints, it's all gotten pretty old.

Leonard's insecurities were funny in the beginning. But now, he's got the "beautiful girl of his dreams." The writers should think of something else. They've changed almost everything else, why not Leonard?

Yeah they're true. I agree with me. lol I was trying to look at it from Leonard's POV. He can't seem to get over his insecurities.

But, yes, from the audience POV, it IS getting tiresome!! He got the girl of his dreams and he still can't seem to relax and enjoy life. Sometimes I think it goes back to Leonard having such an ice cold mother. He could never please her. The one woman in his life who should love him unconditionally never showed him any affection. I think deep down Leonard feels unlovable.

I wonder if it's to set up a big reversal, like Penny being pregnant in the season finale.

Look, as the nerdy guy myself who never seems to get......well, the guy, but "girl" for the point, it's not as simple as just "get over it." That's not quite how it works. If two people are paired together, who are so FAR APART in their social circles, and came together under such unlikely circumstances, the life long "reject" (Leonard) is gonna struggle with those insecurities for most of his life. No matter how good things might seem to be, the thought constantly running through the mind of the "Leonards" is "it's only a matter of time."

My point: the show is made up primarily of these atrocious pairings that don't really happen in real life. We either have to enjoy them and find the humor, or quit watching them altogether, if we're going to waste our brain cells questioning the meaning behind the writings of a sitcom. In real life? They should have never come together in the first place. The Leonards will never feel worthy and the Pennys will never stop rolling their eyes and wondering what the hell they've gotten themselves into. It will either end in disaster and heartbreak or it will die off in misery.

You make good points: In "real" life, things would be different. A person just doesn't "get over" life long struggles and adversity. (How many formerly "fat" people still struggle with self-image?)

But, on Leonard, I was talking about the audience's viewpoint. Maybe the show has gone on too long already, but Leonard "the sad sack" is no longer entertaining.

I find his self-deprecation annoying rather than endearing, in a similar manner as Raj crying about loneliness, while he sabotages every relationship by acting like a complete ass.

Just my opinion.....
