Did this week mark a shift?

This past week two things happened:

1.Sheldon promised to shrink the guidance system within 2 months. To do so Howard said they'd have to work 24/7.

2.Bernadette made it clear she wants to downplay her pregnancy/have as few people talking about it as possible.

What are your thoughts on the following?

1.Is this the writers' way of shifting the show back towards scenes of the guys together at CalTech and away from the pregnancy?

2.Had the show become too apartment/Howard's house-centric?

3.Do you miss the Cal Tech cafeteria as much as I do?

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

reply

1. I would like them to shrink the whole dumb guidance system subplot to 2 more episodes.

2. If Copernicus told us that the earth revolves around the sun and not as in the previous helio-centric world view, the sun revolving around the earth. then Lemons tells us that TBBT revolves around Wolowitz home not the previous Sheldon/Leonard apartment centric worldview.

3. Yes, especially the tater tots. Yum.

reply

1.Perhaps the guidance system could be the reason for the increased CalTech scenes, but not the main focus of them. Perhaps the retinal scanner laser thing could be foreshadowing of hijinkery to come?

2.Znex, I postulated that the show centricked around both the apartments and the Wolowitz house too much, and not enough around places like CalTech. Were you reading my #2 #2 with a pirate's eye patch on?

3.I personally liked the pudding. And the vending machines. But not because I like vending machine food. Because I like brightly-colored things.

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

reply

1. The new lab is just like the old lab I bet. Plus how are they going to run into all the Cal Tech people if they don't go to the cafeteria any more.

2. I don't know what I am doing, Matey ! Arrgh !

3. I like the trays and the make your own sundae bar, if they even have one.

reply

1.Now Znex, you know the fellas are gonna need some nourishment to complete such a difficult project. Why, I think multiple trips to the cafeteria a day might be needed! Are you losing hope on me?

2.Settle down Peg-Leg Antoine.

3.I like the cafeteria line that we only get a glimpse of.

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

reply

1. Yes, especially the Quantum Vortices. Do you think they will use Nano-bots ? I am losing hope in the new season with that nonsense. How do we even know that Col. Williams is even legit ? He could be another North Korean spy for all we know. Maybe he is not Howard's father but Dennis or Joyce Kims father !!! Actually that would be great.

Signing off for today o Lemony one. Seas are raging and this pirate needs to get back to port, or at least to some port wine (That is what Penny would say or WWPS or WWPD - what would penny drink)

reply

I will respond to you, Znex, even though you have set sail for the open seas. Perhaps when you return from pillaging and drinking too much root beer you can see my response.

1.I don't know what Quantum Vortices are. When I think of the word Quantum I just think of that Australian airline Quantas which immediately makes me think of koala bears. And vortices sounds like some sort of viral rash I don't want. I just Googled it. It's actually Qantas. Who cares. Hey, you could spell koala: Quala and it would be pronounced almost the same. What were we talking about?

Happy sailing.

1. Uhrrrrr..., could be. You're much more of a thinker than I am. 

2. I agree that there's been a whole lot of Howard's house.

3. I wasn't, but am now. Why did you do that!

Maybe they're separating Raj out in an opening maneuver to have the option to not renew his contract. Nah, too soon in the season.

1 combined with that stuff you had under the spoiler) WABBIT! You are, too, a thinker! You caught the same thing about Raj that I did, but had not mentioned yet! Meaning- why is he not part of this project, too?? I had not considered the option not to renew his contract option, but one has to wonder! I think we're building a case for his possible departure. LOOK:

A.Last week there was hinting at concerns about his immigration status.
B.This week it was reiterated that he is not part of the project.
C.This week he claimed he was hanging around in the lab because "there was a bumblebee in his office". Now Wabbit, even without an insectothology degree, everyone knows that the bumblebee is the large, lumbering kindly fella of the bee world! No one would leave their office for a bumblebee! What if there IS NO OFFICE??? What if he really just spends all day on the Snapchat?!?!

I mean really, he is afraid of a bumblebee but not a corn snake?? Please!

2)I've never been a huge fan of the Wolowitz house for some reason. Even with all of Bernie's trendy Pottery Barn furniture it still feels like grandma's house to me. You know, like it would smell like moth balls.

3)Thinking about the cafeteria makes me happy. It has been the scene of such classic lines as "long live concrete" and "would you please pass the salt?" (That second line was said by the guy in the blue jacket off to the right at the table near the door in episode 47.5, scene 12. We just didn't hear it.)

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

I really do wonder why they couldn't find a spot for Raj in the organization. 

As far as the bumblebee thing, why would Leonard echo him?

Yes, it is very odd that Raj is not part of this project.

Well, unless they're lining him up for a new astrophysics collaboration with Brian May!! Oh Wabbit, do you think that could be where all this is heading??? Is this lack of guidance system participation guiding the show straight towards my dream come true???

Unfortunately, I think that's just a pipe dream. 😞 Hey, why are pipe dreams called pipe dreams? Are they dreams you make while smoking a pipe? Or dreams that you make while stuck in a drainage pipe?

Oh, and as to your query, maybe Leonard was echoing the bumblebee thing to make Raj's claim sound credible while they were talking to Howard's lawyer cousin so that he would not ask about Raj's office status, job status and then his immigration status. That lawyer had a lot of fancy books behind his head.

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

reply

I believe it is the wacky-opiumacky-type pipe dream. And I'm afraid I have a lack of guidance for you on whether this lack of guidance system participation May be guiding the show straight towards your May dreams. And I feel a little bit like I've been puffing on one of those pipes.

Your lawyer construction sounds suspiciously like what Sheldon would do as a cover-up. Just what are you hiding, citrus?  <-- skeptical lime

Wabbit, did you know if you eat enough poppy seeds you can feel like you've been in an opium den? Except they might get caught in your teeth and then an onlooker might mistake you for having gnats in your mouth.

I don't think Brian May is going to be on the show. I guess the pipe-smoking rabbit decided against it. You're going to have to tell Elon Musk he's wrong, though. According to Sheldon at the beginning of this episode, Musk says we're actually controlled by video game-playing aliens.

Alright Wabbit. It is time to come clean with what I know. Just the other day during a secret conference with lead show writer Marvin McFartgoblin it was revealed to me that TPTB have decided not to renew Kunal's contract. In an effort to save some money (and prevent the need for 25 minutes of commercials), during a very special Christmas episode, Raj will be replaced by a cardboard cutout of his likeness. He will be carried around by a stagehand spouting pre-recorded phrases. The hope is that shutting him out of the guidance system project and not even mentioning Emily or Claire that we won't notice. He'll become a rather one dimensional character so-to-speak.

reply

😆

Maybe BM could turn out to be Howard's dad? As well as a videogame-playing alien. (The Red Special is actually a special-edition game controller)

I think the Raj plan is faultless! They can even have him regain his selective mutism. And for the final step they can say he went to live in Sheldon's Flatland. But one more question - was this Marvin writer-dude wearing a scrub-brush helmet?

Wabbit, you keep unearthing secrets. Like an archeolinologist.

Yes, Brian May is the alien who controls the earth, and Marvin McFartgoblin Martian is the alien lead writer who controls the show, and Sheldon is the alien-like character who controls the other characters. It's kind of like a Russian nesting doll.

And your Raj ideas are brilliant! Is your name Marvin? In the series finale, the group will be hugging and crying as they bid Raj and his new bride, a sexually attractive line segment farewell, and they fly off to Flatland.

Between Christmas and the finale they'll just have to make sure not to leave him in the rain.

I just read an article called the pros and cons of cardboard to write that last part.

Wait, I thought Shelly was C-3PO. 😕

And Raj's gotta have some kind of moisture immunity. http://i.imgur.com/oKbq638.png

I would say that Sheldon is "C-3PO-like". He is also alien-like and insect-like. And thanks to your photographic evidence, we can also now say that he is "weeble-like". In other words, no matter how many times people try to push him out of their face, he pops right back up. He is nothing if not persistent.

Now back to figuring out what they're doing with Raj. You see it occurred to me that several precautionary steps would be needed with a cardboard cutout.

1.They should not get him wet. (Once Aquaman heard Raj thought he sucked, he withdrew all moisture immunity.)
2.They should keep him out of the light (to prevent fading).
3.And they should never, NEVER ever feed him after midnight because he has no mouth hole.

Um...Wabbit? Are we talking about a cardboard Raj cutout or this guy??

Cuter: Gizmo, no doubt.

Less trouble: That's debatable. However, I'm going to choose Raj. So far the worst thing that has happened when he ate too late was this: http://imgur.com/a/5Oe9G

You didn't miss much. It's good for about the first 1/3 and then it's just a bunch of small, evil creatures running amok. But enough about TBBT episodes featuring Bernie.

I jest.

You know, it's possible Raj just isn't part of the project because he's an astrophysicist and that doesn't really pertain to this project. And he's Richie Rich rich and doesn't need the money. And he already discovered that piece of galatic dust and got in People magazine. Perhaps nothing is afoot.

But I'm not so sure.

I couldn't resist. Actually, I believe that Bernie could have made short work of those gremlins.

I suppose it's possible that they're leaving Raj open for other things like girlfriends, although based on the history of such storylines, I'm more excited about the cardboard cutout option. I guess we'll find out!

Well, that does make some sense now. They certainly beefed some of them up in the superhero edition!

We learned some cool stuff today. And it's comforting to know that if any of the current stars decide they've had enough, there is always the possibility of a flat, shiny, somewhat more muscular replacement. In some cases with a cape.

1. No I dont think so, they just needed some vehical so the guys have to spend more time together. On that note what happened to the paper and experiment S+L where envolved in? After the Helium episode it just died down. And Raj will go his own route with his gf for instance.

2. No not at all that's just where they live nothing else.

3. Yes I do.

reply

1.Did the helium shortage put an end to S&L's previous project? I don't remember for sure.

2.Just seemed like in earlier seasons (say, before season 9) there were more sets, and that they were used in a lot of the episodes: The cafeteria, the labs, the comic book store, the apartments, the Wolowitz house, Raj's apartment, Bernie's apartment, various other places they'd go

Now: Just seems like mostly the apartments and Wolowitz home. Occasional lab scenes. Occasional comic book store scenes. Not as much cutting to other places. Could be wrong.

Fingers crossed about the cafeteria!

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

2. I guess or atleast have the feeling that you are right. Maybe its a money- and timesaving matter. Less sets mean less time to have to wait to get the sets ready and less people to get them ready.

What they're doing now, is a derivative or spin-off from that project, in a not-just-theoretical manner (although why Sheldon would want to be involved in something so impure is not explained) which can produce money.

And making the quantum vortices etc, is what the liquid helium is for.

But especially now, with government/military funding, they can get all the liquid helium the want. They can get those containers actually labeled "Property Of US Military" delivered right to them, without bringing cash to a guy driving a non-descript white panel van in an underground parking lot after dark. And Kripke might hang around outside their lab filling his party balloons just from the excess leakage.

reply

Although I still have no clue what quantum vortices are, the rest of that made sense. Thanks for clarifying about the project!

And I'd rather watch Kripke play with helium balloons than hear about a guidance system to be honest, but I'm hoping this plot opens up new avenues for hijinks at CalTech.

Or, since their work is now classified, maybe it'll get "put on a back burner" or taken off the stove entirely in terms of story, and they'll spend more time on Bernadette and the baby, Raj and his women, etc.

reply

1. Not going by what this week's episode appears to be about. The pregnancy appears to be mentioned.

2. I think they've been trying to mix things up a bit, make a balance between single-gender-centered episodes and mixed-gender-episodes. In other words, some weeks the guys will hang out with the other guys and the ladies will hang out with the ladies. Other weeks they'll mix everybody together.

3. A little. I'm not having difficulty breathing or anything, if that's what you mean.
