Please get rid of Raj

Seriously his character has become so annoying and a jerk.

Either change him or have him come out of the closet, meet a nice rich man from India and NEVER COME BACK. He is the FEZ of TBBT.

In the first season, he was one of my favourite characters. I loved the physical comedy, and he was a sweetheart. I don't know when they decided to make him a jerk... But they did.

I agree. They went way too far in making him jerk. He is potentially the most likable character except for Penny. It is one characteristic of sitcoms that the writers can make a person a jerk and then turn them on a dime back into being quite likable. A certain amount of what goes on in sitcoms is pushing one characteristic of a character to an extreme and then bringing them back to normal. The problem is that Raj has become sort of one-sided.It is called Flanderization when they don't bring them back.

Ehh....

In one episode, Penny asks if he is just a jerk when he is sober, and Howard responds," He is, you just can't hear him"

This "request" generally shows up a couple (few) times a season.

There are get rid of Amy posts; and get rid of Bernie posts; but I think "get rid of Raj" posts are the ones I've seen the most.

Raj is funny and often has some great one-liners (as well as great delivery).

I don't think team Howard-and-Bernie would be half as interesting without Raj. It is mostly his one-liners, antics and interactions that makes what's going on with them funny.

Also, he is kind of the conduit between the subgroups that have formed now that everyone else has paired-off.

He reminds me of that single uncle who, when everyone else is all wrapped up in their day-to-day family life, has time to visit everyone and sort of keep them connected with what's going on with each other.

Plus, he isn't any more of a jerk and/or annoying than any of the others have been at any given time.

A character from That 70s Show. He was the Foreign Exchange Student (ala FES, but evolved into Fez).

So you have to like every single thing about a show to watch it? If that were the case no one would watch any show.

reply

It's an opinion and if you don't like it DON'T read.

That was rude a rude response to a legitimate question. When I asked it, I was responding to this

which was also rude. If it's an opinion there is no reason to think it's any better than anyone else's.

I find "nest" mode a real pain because I want to see the latest post, and in "nest," that can be anywhere.I will switch to nest if I want to be sure to whom someone is replying, but my serious suggestion is that people say to whom they are replying or at least quote part of the post that they are replying to. Preferably both. It is not that difficult.

The funny thing is, if they remove him from say 4 or 5 episodes, TBBT fans would want him to come back lol. remember the other 3 geeks have a relationship, 2 are married, one with child on the way and as dysfunctional as Amy and Sheldon's love life is, its still a relationship, if Raj leaves the show, the show would look like something between FRIENDS and SEINFIELD (and possibly soon, Full House) and not even remotely funny..Raj is the 'oddball', they can basically do ANYTHING with his character without pissing fans off but if they try to change any of the other 6 characters in anyway, it could screw up the show...for example, say they decided to make Leonard's character a bit of a douche, people would stop watching the show completely, same for with Sheldon and Howard, but with Raj, they can make him a douche, lovable, pervert, weirdo, loner and it would still work....

Remember the 'characteristics/mannerisms' of the core cast members (the Other 6) has not been changed much or at all since they came on the show (bar penny who got a bit more intelligent of sorts) but they have tried many things with Raj's character..removing him may actually make the show 'unfunny' and cliche ..

Life is a joke, but atleast its a good one.

I have had enough of his character too. Also would be fine with Amy and Bernadette leaving too.

reply

Yeah, I get the Fez comparison.

I think another comparison would be to Monica on Friends. Her character didn't stand out enough so they decided they had to do something, and they made her into a pushy, competitive and obsessive compulsive jerk. I think both Raj and Bernadette have both been treated this way to an extent.
