New writers?

I applaud TBBT for addressing race and women in the workplace. It felt authentic and made me wonder if there are new writers on the show, or something.

Is that sarcasm? 

--Addressing women in the workplace...

Surely, YOU CANNOT mean Bernie...since she was shown as a scheming, backstabbing, and manipulative "B". AND, as someone who was willing to resort to blackmail of her employer, plus abuse the judicial process in order to further her career.

--Addressing race...

When? Where?

Not even a little bit.

"Surely, YOU CANNOT mean Bernie...

since she was shown as a scheming, backstabbing, and manipulative "B".

--Conversation between Amy/Bernie/Penny about why she didn’t want anyone at work know that she is pregnant.

Amy: Why don’t you want anyone to know?

Bernie: Cause I’m up for a major immunotherapy study and if they find out I’m pregnant they may give it to some else.

Penny: Would they really do that?

Bernie: I know they would--they did that to Barbara Chen last years when I told everyone she was pregnant.

--And let’ not forget Bernie’s conversation with Penny about using Chen’s computer to Google “How To Be A Prostitute”.

-------------------------------------
"AND, as someone who was willing to resort to blackmail of her employer,"

--Conversation between Bernie/Penny about whether they had awarded the project…

Penny: So what’s going on with the research project; are they going to let you run it?

Bernie: My boss said he hasn't decided yet; so, I gently reminded him that he is an old, rich white guy and I’m a sweet little pregnant lady who’s not afraid to cry in front of a jury.

------------------------------------------
"plus abuse the judicial process in order to further her career."

--End of the conversation between Bernie/Penny about the project…

Bernie: You know what, it’s just a research project; the most important job in the world is going to be me raising this child. That’s all I need to give my life meaning.

Penny: Oh, that so beautiful.

Bernie: You believe me? Good. Eleven more chumps like you, and I’ll have the jury eating out of my hand.

Figure the OP's aim must have been sarcasm...can't see anyone applauding that depiction of a woman in the workplace.

So, a woman doing this typically male stuff suddenly makes it "bitchy?"

reply

lying and backstabbing are "typically male stuff"? I wonder what the typical males you hang out with are.

You've missed the point of the discussion (see Subject line)...

The point of discussion HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH the character…or, whether or not she was "bitchy".

The point of discussion HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH the writers…and whether or not their woman-in-the-workplace depiction deserves applauding!

it's just ONE woman. Is Penny mean and vindicitive? Would Amy committ perjury? No, it's just Bernadette.

Amy is all talk.
Bernadette actually told a co-worker was pregnant to hold back that person's career. She also keyed Amy's car.

That's your slant. She seemed perfectly willing to me.

Bernadette actually told a co-worker was pregnant to hold back that person's career. She also keyed Amy's car.
Amy also committed aggressive physical violence in the ep you reference.

Amy tried to hit Bernadette after Bernie vandalized her car.
Bernie tried to sabotage a colleague, and it was unprovoked.
There is no comparisson between the two. Bernie is the evil step sister.

You're right about that. An aggressive physical attack is much worse.

They're all devious and messed up when you peel back a layer or two (if you even have to do that). They just ramp up the Bernadette dichotomy.

This conversation shows how downright mean and two-faced Bernie is. It's definitive proof she's a lying, backstabbing, manipulative B.

Absolutely.

It staggers me that people do not get something so obvious.

I think she is hilarious. I think I am meant to find her hilarious.

Then again I have to admit that I find the fact that some people do not get it is also hilarious. Win win for me.

Speaking of not getting it...

People. People. People.

IT IS NOT ABOUT BERNIE!
IT IS NOT ABOUT BERNIE!!
IT IS NOT ABOUT BERNIE!!!

So…

Folks are welcomed to stop-singing-the-same-old-songs about whether they like her or hate her—find her funny or annoying—think she should go or stay—etc.; BECAUSE...

IT IS ABOUT THE WRITERS!
IT IS ABOUT THE WRITERS!!
IT IS ABOUT THE WRITERS!!!

Should they, or shouldn’t they be applauded for HOW THEY WROTE the character in her workplace!

(I would use the apples-and-oranges analogy, but a friend said that whenever you have resort to that comparison to make a point…it’s time to end the discussion.)

Raj made a comment to Sheldon about their different experiences. Something like "Yeah, for you, as a White man who was born here".

Of course they would consciously do so, because after all this is a sitcom and sitcoms are the best vehicle on television for making social commentary.

/end sarcasm

It is a friggin TV show that is meant to make you laugh. So many on this board seem to forget that fundamental fact. One character is this another character is that...blah blah blah.....me I just find the show funny and I find Bernadette really funny even though some here think she is the devil incarnate.
