other characters' families we've not seen yet

Which main character have close family members we haven't met yet, and who do you think should play them?

We've yet to meet:

Sheldon's dad
Howard's dad
Amy's parents

Any others? I guess it'd be interesting to see where Stuart came from. At this point, I kind of doubt we'll meet Sheldon's dad. It seems like they've been doing a build-up for Howard's dad. Would really like to meet Amy's mom, as we've heard so many fun quotes of her over the years. If we meet these characters, who do you think would be good to play?

If he hadn't been so built up as being unlike Sheldon, I almost think Paul Reubens would be good.

Not sure who for Howard's dad.

For Amy's mom, a number of thoughts. Maybe Sally Field. Or heck, at this point, Roseanne just for weirdness with Leonard, and Sheldon's mom. Maybe Michelle Fairley. Wendie Malick. Famke Janssen. Moira Kelly. Melinda Clarke. Michelle Forbes. Mary Louise Parker. Megan Mullally. I swear I don't have a thing about M names, haha.

Thoughts?

Okay, big duh on my part, checked, it's episode 4x05. Will have to check it out later. Back to the rest of my question though ;)

Mary and Sheldon imply that due to her cooking (she cooks everything with bacon grease), Sheldon's father died at 50 from complications related to obesity.

Sheldon told Bernadette's father that his father died when he was 14. ... Also when he died the man who owned the local liquor store cried for a long time.

Maybe the military officer who came to the door asking for Howard will turn out to be his father.

I REALLY like that theory! This whole episode revolved around "family" and that would be the PERFECT way to tie in that story line.

That's what we need - ridiculous odds, and just a speck of hope that someday, we'll beat it

reply

Cool theory, and possible if they force it, but I feel like it's unlikely for a lot of reasons.

-Raj has probably seen pictures of Howard's dad at some point.
-The man gave Howard his name, through Raj, as Colonel Richard Williams. Probably illegal to use a false name in that uniform (though maybe he has connections that would allow it).
-Howard might recognize his dad's voice over the phone. I admit, due to the amount of time, and that his dad at the other end wouldn't be Howard's expectation, maybe not.
-Williams said Howard couldn't ask what it's about.

So, if he is indeed Howard's dad, he's using trickery, deception, and force. Is that how'd you get back in touch with your kid if you wanted it to go well? I think it's far more likely we take it at face value that he's with the Air Force. I do think we'll meet Howard's dad at some point this season, but I don't think this is it.

As has been pointed out several times on the show and in the thread, Sheldon's dad is dead.

We have not seen Leonard's sister or brother, though.

And while Amy's mom has been on screen, I'd like to see her dad.

If they are going to bring Howard's dad in I think it should be through the half brother. That was well cast. He looked like he could really be Howard's brother.

Back in season two, Penny bought a comic book for her 13-year-old nephew from Stuart. So, she has to have a sibling old enough to have a now 20-year-old child.

reply

Penny's nephew could be the child of a cousin... Some people extend the sense of the word "nephew".

SHELDON'S DAD IS DEAD. They say it several times...

According to the trivia we have seen Bernadette's mother but I do not remember when... I would certainly like to see more of her to stablish her personality like we've done with Bernadette's father... I also think that Bernadette's father would have a good relationship with Penny's father... Despite their different perspectives on their daughters marrying nerds and one having a law-breaker as child and the other being a law enforcer.

Excellent point. I have always referred to my mother's uncles and male cousins as Uncle. As someone above also mentioned we have seen Amy's mother but we don't know anything about her socioeconomic background like with the other characters. (Raj comes from money, Leonard's parents are intellectuals, Sheldon and Penny come from redneck families, etc.)

In case you're wondering, I'm female.

reply

I've never heard of calling the child of a cousin "nephew." Anything's possible, I suppose. The child of a first cousin is a first cousin once removed.

Your mother's uncles are your great-uncles, but yeah, people often leave the "great" part out.

reply

"First-cousin-once-removed Gordon" is just too much of a mouthful. :D

If anyone asked me what relation Gordon was to me, I'd be accurate, but I always referred to him as Uncle Gordon within family circles. Nobody got confused because there was only one Gordon - unless you count my grandfather Gordon Frank Challen, but everyone called him Bob.

Families are weird.

reply

Around here we don't use "nephew/niece" as titles. But the kids do refer to an old friend of mine as "Uncle <redacted>". It took a long time for them to pronounce those angle brackets properly.

She has mentioned a sister a couple of times.
Her sister gave get a wax with melted crayola crayons. No mention of her though, so I'm guessing she'll go the way of Jerry and George's sisters in Seinfeld, that they are never mentioned again...

reply

We've seen that sister, the guys were mad about her 'cause she's so hot... She stayed at Penny's. She's Sheldon's twin.

reply

I think they are referring to Penny's elusive sister, who vanished as quickly as Donna's did on That 70's Show. Not Sheldon's sister.

reply

I would like to know why Bernadette said she had, five? I think, younger siblings, and not one showed up at the wedding?

reply

Do you mean at her wedding to Howard? Or at the second wedding of Leonard and Penny, where Bernadette was just officiating?

reply

we've seen quite enough other characters as it is. And Sheldon and Howard's fathers are dead. Amy's mother was seen on a computer i think in season 4 when Amy skyped her or something.

reply

Howard's father is not dead. He had to sign some papers to transfer the house to Howard after his mother died. We just didn't see him.

reply

oh, i thought he was dead. Well, anyway, i still don't want to see him.

reply

I'm with this. The Wedding was a good way to bring in any characters they wanted to. But clearly this show is closer to the end than the beginning, or the middle, so I'd rather not waste the time we have left being introduced to new characters. Specifically, Howard's father. I really don't need to see anymore of the Walowicz family tree.

Whether Howard's father is dead or not, we do not know, but he abandoned his son, so, fck him.

reply

If Howard's father is dead, he died just since signing the paperwork for Howard to get the house after his mother died. Late in season 8.

reply

We haven't seen Missy (Sheldon's twin sister) in awhile . In fact Sheldon went to Texas (or Texazz as he pronounces it on the show sometimes ) to see Missy have a baby a couple of seasons ago. So it'd be nice to see Missy and her son come to CA to see "Uncle Shelly"
BTW, to the poster that suggested that Howard's dad be the one that gave Howard that message...GREAT idea!!!

reply

In addition to the other posts:

1. Sheldon has mentioned a brother a few times.

2. Penny mentioned having a sister in the episode where she was afraid to tell her parents she had gotten married.
