For me, it wasn't so much the lack of drama. It was the lack of character consistently. Sam, Noah, and Kat pretty much abandoned all of their traits from the first season. Yes, people change, but no one does a complete 360 within nine months.
Degrassi doesn't always didn't have drama. Neither did season 1 of TBY. At least not every bit had JUST drama. The writing was so much better and more consistent.
Season 2 seemed like a completely different show. Everything, I repeat, everything was too different to be enjoyable. Sure, I enjoyed the upbeatness but the newer characters just weren't believable, and the returning characters were unrecognizable from their season 1 selves.
The-n forced TBY's drama and serious levels to lower because they wanted to cater to a younger audience. That's fine and dandy, but the least they could have done was get MOST of the former cast back, and keep some semblance of Sam, Kat, and Noah's characters from the first season.
Meh, so much for the-n's former motto of "real life now."
In short, every old character that returned is one dimensional this season along with the new characters. Samantha isn't smart anymore and with a ten year plan...Noah is more or less progressing but he is being untruthful to himself, and Kat...ha, let's not even go there.
