Her Eyes *spoilers*

Can someone please explain to me why Erika's eyes, come the end of the movie, seemed to be blind? They were completely white, something I didn't notice until right at the end. I know she wasn't blind to begin with, since her father put a hand over her eyes right before he was shot. My best guess is that it was a combination of shock/captivity that caused her to go blind? (and yes, shock can make someone go blind). Or perhaps something that happened to her during her time in the woods? Any thoughts?

I think she was just accustomed to the dark. Her "milky" looking eyes seem typical of nocturnal/subterranean living animals. Even if her eyes were clear before her parent's murder, she was pretty much kept in Dimas' dark basement post-murder. She's not blind, she just has lousy vision in the light (her POV was shown once or twice). But did you notice how it seemed to clear in the end? That was the freakiest moment for me.

I agree, that was freakish.

Was kind of dumb. It's possible something like that could happen, but it would have to be FARRRRRRR more than a year or so. There were so many flaws with the story of the girl it almost ruined it.

I had the impression the she rolled her eyes upwards so much that the iris and pupils aren't visible anymore rather than being blind. As far as I know this also sometimes happens shortly before people faint. Some sort of catatonic behavior maybe further depicting her miserable mental state.

In the very last scene she has white eyes while standing in front of the gecko's terrarium and shortly after when the nun left her pupils are visible again.

I also had the idea that she is way more clever than the people think and she is just staging that catatonic behavior to give others the impressions of her being harmless or to get attention? I don't find the right words in english ;)
But that theory would work quite well with the last scene ;)

I just finished watching the movie and your impression is what I got. That She was meant to have her eyes rolled back in her head all out of it. You can clearly see she has white over contacts as maybe it was to hard for the girl to roll her eyes back.

Early in the movie you see her eyes are normal, but very dilated cause she's so use to the dark.
