Was he a vampire?

Besides the fact that he could not be out in the sun, in the very beginning when they are at the Dr's office the Dr asks the Mother about the 'canines'then at the school, the boys open his mouth to reveal his teeth and say "he is a vampire" or something like that..
Also, why was the wild girl protecting him? Could it be because she knew he was a monster?

I'm pretty sure he was just a guy with photophobia and larger than average canines.

Observe: This girl is about to be beaten with sticks. She has offended you, surely.

reply

Normal is a setting on a washing machine. there are no "normal" people.

He had xeroderma pigmentosum which means that he has a severe reaction to sunlight. The gums recede. which appears as if his canines start growing.

He wasn't a vampire, obviously. He just suffered from photophobia.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Of course not ! That's even insulting to the condition of real vampires.
