Weird accent

Why is it that in every spanish movie taking place in some remote village the characters speak in a weird mix of accents? Spanish accents are crearly defined, trying to speak like a peasant from a nondescript rural area only makes actors seem ridiculous.

And why in all american scary movies has always a bunch of stupid teenagers dying around with some predictable ending?

reply

Well, I'm a spaniard and I didn't notice any weird accent. How is it possible?

reply

i'm not a spaniard, but i am a fluent spanish speaker.
The interesting thing is that I found the villagers easier to understand than the "city people", Santi and his mom.

I'm a not-so-fluent Spanish speaker, and I totally agree with this. The woman who played his mom was especially hard to understand. She spoke really fast and slurred/elided a lot of the words and sounds within words. This is often my experience watching Spanish movies, most of which do take place in cities. I could understand a lot more when the villagers spoke.

For the same reason that in every American horror movie taking place out in the boonies, every actor playing a local dredges up a stereotypical (and terrible) Southern accent which doesn't seem to many any actual location.

Why do so many space aliens and fantasy characters have British accents?

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!
