Thank god for Merchant/Ivory

I can always count on them to continue the tradition of using actual film to shoot their movies. You leave a great legacy behind.

For shame, Michael Mann. In my youth I will not doubt live to see the day when someone like you remakes a great film in digital. Imagine a remake by him of a film like Lawrence of Arabia. The slaughter at Tafas. Blurry. Cgi camels. Cgi sand. Shia LaBeouf shouting "No prisoners!"

In the words of 2Pac, "See this Tanqueray influenced me to gettin crazy
disillusioned lately." Tell me can you feel me?

But I think that if Merchant were still alive, he would have insisted that James hire a decent film editor...

(the editing was terrible!)

Micheal Mann may experiment with digital, but he does not use cgi, and does a pretty great job at casting quality actors. I think Mann has a great respect for the art of filmmaking and I think it is disgraceful to make him sound like some Micheal Bay impersinator. It is silly to try and fight against the progress of technology. Just because we are able to make films and music differently does not mean it will erase the past.

Well said, and good example with Michael Mann - someone who formerly used actual film to a very high level of artistry.

Please, please, James Ivory, do a new version of "Under the Volcano" with Anthony Hopkins as Geoffrey Firmin...you are the only director who can get it right!

I thought that Collateral was beautifully shot, it was the perfect medium for that particular film.
