Blatant misconception and a horrible, outdated cliche

Before I start with my little rant, I wanna get a few things out of the way:

1) I haven't gone through the entire film yet, I'm about a tad over half way. I just had to come here and get this off my chest.
2) I've enjoyed this movie so far. I thought the main characters were extremely compelling, possessed (as I imagine they're based on real people) a tremendous amount of depth, and the acting was top notch.
3) I was first drawn to this movie because my favorite actor, Anthony Hopkins, was in it. I was, as always, astoundingly impressed and pleased by his brilliant performance. Definitely not a let-down.

However, the bone I'm here to pick isn't particularly related to the story-line, or the main characters, or even technicalities concerning cinematography. No, my quibble is over the characterization of the native people.

Before I go any further, I'd like to add that I'm not Uruguayan. I'm Argentinean, but I'm also 50% American (so I'm not a 100% biased)I'm currently living in Argentina, which is, if you didn't know, extremely similar to Uruguay (at least culture-wise, ethnicity, however more 'urban') so I've a first-hand knowledge of how people behave down here and some real insight into types of personalities and such. And let me say right off the bat: the characterization in this film is, for lack of a better word, lacking. Men don't rabble on and on about women, and 'special friends'. Nobody cares whether you're intimate with other people or not. That's not *a thing*. It might've been a century ago, or maybe something strictly related to Central-American banter. I was really quite affronted by the way that doctor was grilling Arden, seemed borderline creep behavior.

That being said, I can't claim I've ever lived in a rural area, much less in a rural area in URUGUAY, though. I've only lived in Buenos Aires, which as I'm guessing you know, is (despite of economic ordeals, and whether you wanna acknowledge it or not)a First World city in almost every sense of the word. But that's another story.

I guess my point is: characterization is way off the mark, people don't behave this way. It's a misconception.
Thanks.

Edit: Alright, I just finished watching and I thought it was a wonderful film. I daresay it's become a favorite of mine. Yes, I liked it that much. Has a certain atmosphere and perspective (foreigners living in SA, their isolation, etc) and, of course, Anthony Hopkins was the icing on the cake.

Empty, brain - cramp filled, drivel. As interesting as going to a Rotary meeting. Was looking forward to it and now that it is finished I can donate it to my local Blockbuster video. Oh, that's right, they're bankrupt, too. Better make it the landfill.

Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.
