Wonderful Movie! Very Overlooked!

I caught this last night on Starz Cinema and I was so glad I did! Great cast and a really great story, Liney and Hopkins and James Ivory are in top form on this film. Why did this get so attention from the "Oscar world"? It seem now that world has been gobbbled up by garbadge like Black Swan and Inception?

I missed the beginning unfortunately. a wonderful movie indeed! I don't think it ever got to the theaters, did it? Superbly acted, elegant script. loved it.

Sorry, but I disagree. Of course, Hopkins was great (he always is), and Linney's acting was good, too. But the story line and the whole movie in general, IMO, sucked. It was boring as hell. Sure, the cinematography was wonderful. But it was such an all-too-predictable ending. And, come on. The gal who played the mistress - couldn't they at least have found someone with a bit more meat on her bones and whose teeth looked a bit nicer (in some shots, they almost looked like they were rotting)?

It's no wonder it was "overlooked". There wasn't much to see to begin with.

This movie obviously doesn't suit everyone's temperament. I'm sure there are a lot of movies some people would enjoy more. It's a shame if they are misled into watching this one. If one finds this movie "boring" might I suggest Bruce Willis' "Die Hard" movies, or perhaps Vin Diesel's latest, or the myriad other films of that genre that are so readily available, as more suitable fare to their taste.

I hate when arrogant people throw out the Die Hard/ Vin Diesel analogy; it's a childish attempt to prove their elitism and cultural superiority over a differing opinion. As a huge fan of Merchant Ivory & owner of half the Merchant Ivory DVD film library, I found "Final Destination" slow, boring, predictable, and toothless. If I wasn't a huge fan of Hopkins, I doubt I would have sat through the entire film. The characters were not well-defined or believable. The only MI film I disliked more was Jane Austin in Manhattan.

That's being very harsh on Charlotte Gainsbourg by the way. There is nothing wrong with her teeth in any of the shots. I'm sorry you find her that way but the essence of that character was about vulnerability, a girl who Gund brought back as a "pregnant kitten" who could get blown anyway by the wind. The script is flawed yes, it has its beautiful moments though like the absurd Gondola scene which is a combination of desire, vulnerability and the respect for a memory past.

That's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live forever

Great cast, everybody did great including Omar Metwally, Lara, and Gainsbourgh. Sanada was the only one who didn't belong.

It was a very uninspired script. I was bored the whole way through. I wanted to like it but it fell very flat.

I agree this was a well done movie with an interesting story and a superb cast, but Inception is awesome in its own right. Wouldn't know about Black Swan -- had no interest.
